Since the 19th century, a navigable dam has allowed the crossing of the lake at the narrowest point between Rapperswil and Hurden. The wooden footbridge also still exists. In April 2001, an 841-meter-long, two-and-a-half-meter-wide, modernly designed wooden bridge was inaugurated on the site of the old footbridge. It is the longest wooden footbridge in Switzerland. It stands on a total of 233 piles. With the exception of a few structural elements (yoke beams, barrier, connecting parts), the entire footbridge is made of untreated oak wood.
