Agecroft Hall

11 minutes away
On the rolling banks of the James River stands a remarkable Tudor estate. And by Tudor, we're not simply referring to an architectural style. This manor house was actually built in Lancashire, England in the late 15th Century. Today, Agecroft Hall stands beautifully re-created, in a setting reminiscent of its original site on Lancashire's Irwell River. It is now operated as a museum. Visit Agecroft, and you'll walk into the lives of the landed gentry in England's Tudor and early Stuart periods. Tour the Great Hall, and you'll imagine the feasts and merriment its richly-paneled walls have seen. Enter the manor's Great Parlour, where family and guests retreated for comfort, privacy and 16th- and 17th-century diversions. Peruse the sleeping chambers, where residents not only rested, but also dressed and dined. From its "dyninge parlour," up its intricately carved staircases and through its noble passageways, this manor home has 500 years of stories to tell.

Museum of the Confederacy

8 mi. away
Come explore the Museum's three floors of galleries containing the world's most comprehensive collection of artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs from the Confederate States of America. Be transported back in time as you wander past "Stonewall" Jackson's forage cap, J.E.B. Stuart's LeMat pistol, and Robert E. Lee's field tent. Learn about lesser-known topics like the daily lives of common soldiers, the Confederate Navy, and art from the period. The centerpiece of the museum complex is a separate structure a few yards north of the museum building, across a shady, peaceful garden. The Museum organizes and sponsors a variety of lectures and other special events and programs, inviting the public to join us in our exploration of American society in the 1800s.

Richmond National Battlefield Park

34 minutes away
Richmond National Battlefield Park is located in central Virginia approximately 100 miles south of Washington D.C. The park encompasses a large area with battlefield sites and visitor centers located in the City of Richmond, and Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield counties. The park commemorates four major actions of the U.S. Civil War: the 1862 Seven Days Campaign, June 26 – July 1, 1862 encompassing Beaver Dam Creek, Gaines’ Mill, Glendale (Frayser’s Farm) and Malvern Hill; a portion of the 1864 Overland Campaign, May 28 – June 13, 1864, including Totopotomoy Creek and Cold Harbor; the May 15, 1862 naval action at Drewry’s Bluff; and actions along the Richmond-Petersburg front, September 29, 1864 -April 2, 1865, encompassing Fort Harrison, New Market Heights, Deep Bottom and Parker’s Battery. A driving tour of the battlefields outlined on the park map includes 13 separate sites with four visitor centers along a 80 mile route. A full day is required to experience the entire battlefield park. Richmond's story is not just the tale of one large Civil War battle, nor even one important campaign. Instead, the park's resources include a naval battle, a key industrial complex, the Confederacy's largest hospital, dozens of miles of elaborate original fortifications, and the evocative spots where determined soldiers stood paces apart and fought with rifles, reaping a staggering human cost.
