Merge onto I-295 N via EXIT 44 toward Downtown Portland/South Portland Portions toll. Then 5.69 miles. Merge onto Franklin St/US-1 Alt S via Exit 7. Then .84 miles. Turn left onto Fore Street. Turn left onto Hancock Street. Arrive at 25 Hancock Street. Coming from the Northern part of the State merge onto I-295 S. Use the 2nd from the right lane to take exit 8 for Washington Ave 0.2 miles. Keep left, follow signs for Washington Ave, 400 ft. Continue on ME-26 S/Washington Ave, 0.6 miles. Take a slight left onto Mountfort St, 0.2 miles. Turn right onto Newbury St, 450 feet. Portland Breakwater Light, sometimes referred to a Bug Light Park Lighthouse, stands as a living history. Its role as a marker of the end of the rocky breakwater shielding Portland Harbor began in 1855. In 1875 it was replaced, and at only 26-feet tall, it is known for its diminutive size and its elegance. It continues to be cared for and enjoyed by those visiting the park and those passing by on the waters of Casco Bay – its 250 mm optic exhibits a white flash every four seconds, welcoming visitors to South Portland and historic Portland Harbor.

Seven miles of beach/ When the tide is out and the sun is shining, the sand goes on forever. People nestle in for a nap, play football, toss a frisbee, venture into the surf. There seems to be room for everyone.
Old Orchard Beach Pier. First built in 1898, the Pier once marched more than 1,800 feet out into the bay. It hosted restaurants, shops and even a casino where Frank Sinatra once crooned. Storms eventually broke down the old Pier; the newer one is slightly shorter. But it, too, includes places to eat, drink and shop, all of them above the waves.
Back on shore, check out Palace Playland, the Old Orchard Beach amusement park. Here, you can scare yourself on the big-kid rides, play for tickets on the arcade games or watch the waves below as you sit atop the Ferris wheel.
More than anything, OOB is a local’s town. Stroll the Old Orchard Beach boardwalk, enjoy small, local shops and stop by Old Orchard Beach restaurants, local bars and local hotels and motels. Pick up a sandwich, shop for a t-shirt, sip a beer or grab some cotton candy. People have been strolling these same streets and enjoying these places for generations.
You can even end your day with a ball game. The Surge, a team in baseball’s Empire League, plays each summer in OOB’s Ballpark.
