A Masterpiece of Culture and Architecture
The Chumash Museum’s design and architecture, led by Johnpaul Jones, is a special place that allows the tribe to share its rich cultural heritage with the public.
The Chumash Museum is designed to showcase the Chumash people, both in tradition and in daily life, including areas of medicine, language, song and music, tribal gatherings, family, and community.
Elements of Chumash culture will surround visitors as they progress through the museum, beginning at the Welcome Gallery. The permanent exhibit gallery is where the tribe’s message that spans thousands of years will be told, and a classroom is available for kid-friendly learning and exploration.
Other spaces include a gathering house amphitheater and lush gardens that help visitors learn about the sustainability and balance that have played important roles in Chumash culture for generations.

One of our favorite things about the Santa Ynez Valley is dressing up for fine dining. We call it SYV casual – and heading for a night out at one of our favorite restaurants. The toughest part is deciding which one.
Over the years, the Santa Ynez Valley’s culinary scene has grown increasingly diverse and ever more delicious. Indeed, our fine dining experiences have particularly taken off.
These days, the Santa Ynez Valley gets as much attention for its creative culinary scene as its world-class wines. For real. Just recently the fine folks at the Michelin Guide have added Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos to its prestigious list.

That makes six Santa Ynez Valley restaurants that have earned Michelin recognition of some kind, joining the Michelin-starred Bell’s Los Alamos, as well as Bar Le Côte, Coast Range, First & Oak, and peasant’s FEAST as local restaurants that have earned some level of Michelin recognition.
Such recognition is a true honor. But it doesn’t make choosing a place for a night out any easier! Nor, does the Michelin Guide encompass every memorable fine dining experience in the Santa Ynez Valley.

The Formosa Cafe

The Formosa first opened its doors IN LOS ANGELES in 1939: making its new debut in its 80th year. Located across from the then-Samuel Goldwyn studio, stars like Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, James Dean, and Elvis Presley would pop into the legendary Formosa Cafe regularly for dining and drinks. On any given day, patrons might have seen Ava Gardner dancing past the old, red leather booths, or John Wayne nursing a late-night scotch (he was caught making scrambled eggs in our kitchen one morning, after reportedly passing out in a booth the night before).
Among the interior design restorations is the full reveal of the iconic and original red trolley car, dating back to 1904 and is confirmed to be the oldest surviving red train car in existence. Boxes of autographed celebrity photos and storage units of original memorabilia have made their way back into the Cafe.
