Taughannock Falls State Park, located just north of Ithaca, is home to the tallest single-drop waterfall in the northeastern United States. Plunging 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge, the waterfall is actually 33 feet taller than Niagara Falls. The park encompasses 750 acres of dramatic landscape, where the Taughannock Creek has carved a deep "hanging valley" through layers of ancient shale and limestone.
