Due to the Cayman Islands tropical climate and year round warm water temperatures, the ocean floor is richly covered with an abundance of corals and sponges that provide food and shelter to a huge diversity of marine life. The famous Cayman Wall runs around the entire island, with dive sites on all four sides. While there is plenty for novice divers to see on the sandy flats on top of the wall, those who descend deeper will be privy to some truly breathtaking scenery. Among the mélange of black coral, giant purple sea fans and barrel sponges, you are bound to spot parrot fish, barracuda, eagle rays, turtles and even the odd Hammerhead.

Begin this sail aboard a privately chartered catamaran leaving from the beach at The Ritz-Carlton. The first stop is the sunken US Naval ship the USS Kittiwake. Observe this attraction from the surface, dive down and snorkel as close as 10 feet from the 250 foot long sunken vessel. The next stop will take you to one of Seven Mile Beach’s many spectacular coral reefs where you will encounter an amazing array of tropical fish and lush coral. Pedro St. James National Historic Site

Discover the unique heritage and culture of Cayman via this lovingly restored window into the 18th century that’s only a 20-minute drive from George Town. At a time in the Cayman Islands when most people lived in tiny, thatch-covered houses, a wealthy Englishman, using slave labour from Jamaica, created an astonishing 3-storey building called Pedro St. James. In the 1990s, the Government of the Cayman Islands purchased Pedro St. James and painstakingly restored the Great House to the splendor of its 18th century heritage. Today, visitors can stroll through the imposing edifice with its period furniture and authentic artifacts to experience what life was like so long ago in Cayman’s history.

The Mastic, a deep forest trail located 50 minutes from the resort, is well worth the drive. The Mastic is one of the few remaining areas of untouched forests in Cayman. Enjoy the majesty of Cayman's flora and fauna as you encounter a multitude of birds such as banana birds, West Indian woodpeckers and the Cayman Islands’ national bird, the Grand Cayman parrot. Visitors also have the opportunity to come in contact with Cuban tree frogs, hermit crabs, lizards and geckos, nine species of bats, six species of butterflies and even a snake or two, but no worries, there are no poisonous snakes in Cayman. See the national tree and flower, the silver thatch palm and the wild banana orchid. With 22 points of interest along the trail and only a CI $5 admission fee, nature and hiking enthusiasts are sure to be pleased.
