In 1992, New York Offstage began, when founder, Bev Sambrotto, left her role as Assistant Director of Visitor Services at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Her tenure at Lincoln Center gave her invaluable experience as a producer of refined cultural events. This experience included talent recruitment and coordination with world-class talent from Lincoln Center’s companies, cutting edge event planning and production for Fortune 500 corporations, and creative, interactive program content for patrons, and international travel and luxury group clients. New York Offstage flourished as the industry leader in these immersive, behind-the-scenes experiences showcasing New York’s cultural world. As the company grew it was evident that its services and business model could be copied in other leading cultural destinations and in 2007 the brand was renamed The Offstage Group. Until 2012 The Offstage Group served groups of all sizes. Where We Meet We typically meet guests at the Ace Hotel located at 20 W 29th Street (midtown Manhattan, 10 blocks south of Times Square). If we are taking guests on a Brooklyn tour, we typically meet them at the Whole Foods upstairs cafe located at 4 Union Square (Manhattan, at 14th Street). At both pre-experience meeting locations you’ll find a cafe and bathroom, which are both convenient before your marathon secondhand shopping day! For larger groups and corporate events, we organize meetings at a private location also conveniently located near midtown and subway access. Originally constructed in 1762, the main building served as a vital stagecoach stop along the Old Post Road, a major thoroughfare connecting New York City to Boston. During the Revolutionary War, Bedford and its surroundings played a pivotal role as a strategic outpost. The inn, with its vantage point and resources, is believed to have provided shelter and sustenance to soldiers and local militia. Stories passed down through generations suggest that the inn’s wine cellar may have been used as a hiding place for valuable supplies and even people during times of conflict. In the 18th and 19th centuries, weary travelers and postal riders would find respite within its sturdy walls, enjoying the warmth and hospitality of this rural haven. The inn’s strategic location contributed to its significance in the area, making it a bustling spot of activity for both locals and travelers. As transportation evolved and the age of stagecoaches waned, the Bedford Post Inn transitioned into a private residence in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The building’s historic charm and rustic architecture were meticulously preserved by its various owners, each contributing to its legacy. In 2007 actor Richard Gere and his business partner Russell Hernandez acquired the property, recognizing its potential and historical significance, they embarked on an extensive renovation project to restore the inn to its former glory while incorporating modern luxuries. Today, the Bedford Post Inn is managed by Sunday Hospitality.
