Oakland Zoo was established in 1922 and is managed by the Conservation Society of California, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of wildlife both locally and globally. The Zoo is home to over 700 native and exotic animals. We're recognized for our outstanding animal care, particularly our elephant care program, and for our Leed-certified, 17,000 square foot, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital—the largest wild animal veterinary facility in Northern California. July 2018 introduced Oakland Zoo guests to an entirely new experience, California Trail, a monumental expansion that furthers our commitment to animal care, education, and conservation with a focus on this state’s remarkable native wildlife—both past and present.

The first crowd filled Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on September 18, 1966 when the AFL’s Oakland Raiders played the Kansas City Chiefs. The adjacent arena celebrated its grand opening on November 9, 1966 when the Oakland Seals met the San Diego Gulls for an NHL game. In the following 48 years, the Oakland-Alameda County Arena and Coliseum Complex has hosted a spectrum of events in both the sporting and entertainment industries including concerts, circus, boxing, rodeos, religious speakers and ice shows. Audiences numbering nearly 100 million have made Oracle Arena and Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum the premier sports and entertainment facilities in Northern California. In October 1995, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum began an extensive renovation. The $120 million project included the addition of 22,000 new seats, 90 luxury suites, two private clubs and two state-of-the-art scoreboards. Oracle Arena followed suit in June 1996 with a $100 million renovation. This project involved the complete demolition and concurrent redesign of the building’s interior. Capacity was increased by more than 4,000 to a maximum of 19,200 occupancy, plus 72 luxury suites and three exclusive clubs were added. In 2006, the Golden State Warriors and Oracle Corporation announced a naming agreement for the Oracle Arena. The newly renovated Oracle Arena and Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum sit on 132 acres with an ample 10,000 on-site parking spaces. Currently managed by AEG Facilities, the venues are easily accessible by both highway and public transportation and is complete with a pedestrian bridge which allows guests direct access to the venues from the Coliseum BART station.

Fisherman’s Wharf Merchants Association actively works with a variety of organizations to strengthen the community and make its resources more readily available to San Franciscans and visitors alike. The Association is currently supporting two of Fisherman’s Wharf’s most important community programs: The San Francisco Police Department Youth Fishing Program and The Fishermen’s and Seamen’s Memorial Chapel Fund.

Built in 1928, the Fox Theater is an architectural masterpiece and former movie house that underwent a $75 million renovation to reopen its doors in February of 2009 under the direction of Another Planet Entertainment. Featuring jaw-dropping original details, state-of-the-art Meyer sound system and a capacity of up to 2,800, the Fox is continuously recognized as a favorite among touring artists and fans alike. The Fox Theater’s leading presence in Oakland has anchored the long-awaited renaissance of an Uptown entertainment district of theaters, restaurants, and nightspots.

Oakland's Paramount Theatre is one of the finest remaining examples of Art Deco design in the United States. Designed by renowned San Francisco architect Timothy L. Pflueger and completed in late 1931, it was one of the first Depression-era buildings to incorporate and integrate the work of numerous creative artists into its architecture and is particularly noteworthy for its successful orchestration of the various artistic disciplines into an original and harmonious whole. Construction was initiated by Publix Theatres, the exhibiting organization of Paramount Pictures. Although financial difficulties forced the sale of the uncompleted building to Fox-West Coast Theatres, the firm that completed the theatre and operated it until it closed on September 15, 1970, the name "Paramount" was retained. After its initial brief blaze of "movie palace" glory in the 1930's, this remarkable auditorium suffered three decades of neglect and decline until its rescue by the Oakland Symphony, the City of Oakland and numerous private donors. The building was purchased by the Board of Directors of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Association in 1972. A painstaking and authentic restoration was completed in 1973 and the theatre was entered in the National Register of Historic Places on August 14th of that year. In 1975 the City of Oakland, the present owner, assumed ownership from the Oakland Symphony Orchestra Association. The Paramount Theatre became a California Registered Historic Landmark in 1976, and on May 5, 1977, was declared a National Historic Landmark. Restored to its original splendor, meticulously maintained, and fully upgraded to modern technical standards, the Paramount now serves all the arts. The Paramount Theatre is the home of the Oakland East Bay Symphony and, as one of the San Francisco Bay Area's premiere performing arts facilities, hosts a year-round schedule of popular music concerts, variety shows, theatre, and - of course - movies.
