Penang International Airport is situated 16 km south of Georgetown, the capital city of Penang, and connects with all major cities in Southeast Asia. The Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (Bayan Lepas FIZ) is a duty-free industrial area within the Penang Island. Located within the Bayan Lepas suburb, the Bayan Lepas FIZ is situated adjacent to the Penang International Airport (PEN) and the Second Penang Bridge. Due to the prominent hi-tech electronics manufacturing clusters within the Bayan Lepas FIZ, the zone is nicknamed the 'Silicon Valley of the East'. This industrial zone has played a pivotal role in diversifying Penang's economy, following the economic downturn in 1969 as a result of the removal of George Town's free port status by the Malaysian federal government. The Bayan Lepas FIZ is built in four phases. Construction of Phase 1 began in 1972, while Phase IV was completed by the 1990s. Attracted by the zone's tax free status and the relaxation of American laws regarding production facilities abroad, the 'Samurai Eight' - Advanced Micro Devices, Agilent, Clarion, Fairchild, Hitachi, Intel, Osram and Robert Bosch - became the first multinational companies (MNCs) to build factories within the Bayan Lepas FIZ. Since then, hundreds of MNCs have established assembly plants and regional-level research centres within the zone, including Motorola, Hewlett Packard, Dell, Jabil, Seagate, Plexus, Bosch, Western Digital, B. Braun and St. Jude. This industrial zone not only provides employment to thousands of Penangites and Malaysians from other states, it also boosted Penang's manufacturing sector, which to date, contributes over 2/5 of Penang's GDP. In addition, the zone has promoted the rapid development of Bayan Lepas, with adjacent townships and neighbourhoods such as Bayan Baru, Sungai Ara, Sungai Nibong and Batu Maung becoming urbanised in the following decades.

The temple was constructed in the 1805 to honour Chor Soo Kong (also known as Master Qingshui), a Buddhist monk who lived during the Song dynasty (960–1279) for his numerous miracles and good deeds especially in healing the sick and giving shelter to snakes. When the temple structure was completed in the 1800s, snakes coming from the species of Wagler's pit viper reportedly appeared by themselves.

Fort Cornwallis is a bastion fort in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, built by the British East India Company in the late 18th century. It is the largest standing fort in Malaysia. The fort never engaged in combat during its operational history. It was named after the then Lieutenant-General The 2nd Earl Cornwallis (1738–1805), the Governor-General of Bengal at the time of the fort's construction, who had also been involved in the American War of Independence, surrendering his army to George Washington at Yorktown in 1781. Lord Cornwallis was later created, in 1792, The 1st Marquess Cornwallis, and he was promoted to being a full-ranking General in the British Army in 1793. Lord Cornwallis later served, from 1798 to 1801, as the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, where he overseen the implementation of the Act of Union.

Street art in Georgetown in Penang started in 2009 when the State government, in order to physically brand the UNESCO World Heritage town of Georgetown, and make it more interesting and informative for the public, opened an international pitch (under the campaign ‘Marking George Town’) for artists to come together and put forward their ideas, that retell the history of the streets and stories of its communities in a local voice.

The Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is a government gazetted heritage building located on Leith Street in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. The mansion's external decorations and indigo-blue outer walls make it a very distinctive building, and it is sometimes referred to as The Blue Mansion.Built by the merchant Cheong Fatt Tze at the end of the 19th century, the mansion has 38 rooms, 5 granite-paved courtyards, 7 staircases and 220 vernacular timber louvre windows. It served as Cheong's private residence as well as the seat of his business activities in Penang.
