Iceland's new waste sorting law, which took effect on January 1, 2023, aims to significantly improve waste management and recycling across the country. This law, often referred to as "the circular law," mandates a standardized waste sorting system to promote recycling and reduce waste going to landfills. Households and workplaces must sort waste into seven categories: paper, plastic, bio-waste, textiles, metals, glass, and hazardous waste. This system applies uniformly throughout Iceland to simplify and enhance recycling efforts.
