Local Attractions

AL Hafah souq (traditional market)

20 minutes away
Nestled in the coconut groves three kilometers out of Salalah is a cozy souq in the Al Hafah section of town. Here are textile shops, gold and silver souqs and probably best of all, perfumeries where you can find frankincense and bokhur that will send your olfactory senses sailing. All the accoutrements are available as well as burners and charcoal. Al Hafah souk is an old style souk, not to be confused with the modern replica souk that can be found in many shopping malls. This souk looks and feels like an old style Omani souk where batering is not only acceptable, but if you don't do it the stall owners will not repect you. It is one of those rare places where one can by authentic Omani products.

Al BAleed Museum

20 minutes away
The Museum of Frankincense Land opened in 2007 near Salalah at al Baleed Park in Oman’s southern region of Dhofar where Boswellia trees grow. The museum is located in an archaeological park of historic city-port Al Balid, selected by UNESCO in 2000, as one of the four World Heritage Sites of the Land of Frankincense.

Marnif cave and Mughsayl blowholes

25 minutes away
Al Marnif Cave lies in Shatti Al Mughsayl area about 40 kilometres from Salalah in Governorate of Dhofar. It overlooks the Arabian Sea and Al Mughsayl fountains (blow-holes), which are a natural phenomenon resulting from the momentum of the water surging into the cavities of rock that lie mostly under water. In monsoon, when sea levels rise and water currents become more active, the running water rips through the rock cavities, resulting in the surge of the water fountain, noted for its outstanding beauty. The sound of the gushing water lends the place a unique ambience of its own.

Mausoleum of Nabi Ayub (Job's tomb)

Historical landmark
20 minutes away
Out of the 10 mausoleums in and around Salalah, probably the one with the most religious significance to Muslims and Christians alike is An Nabi Ayyub (Job’s Tomb). The drive leading up to the isolated hilltop location of the tomb is particularly beautiful just after the Khareef mists have lifted when the reward is a spectacular view over the Salalah plain.
