About us

Steigenberger Alsik The hotel opened May 2019 and is beautifully situated along Sønderborg's lovely old waterfront and a new landmark in the area. It is part of the overall development-masterplan created by the world famous architect Frank Gehry and its realisation carries the signature of Henning Larsen architects™. It is not only the view from the platform just below the fine dining restaurant 17th (dining room) on the same floor, the inviting day-light lit banqueting & conference area but also the spacious and state-of-the-art Alsik Spa (Nordic wellness) area and the 190 rooms and suites comfortably equipped in a Nordic style, which make this project one of its kind! In addition in 2022 a new venue location has been added just 300 metres from the hotel. A perfect location for your next conference, exhibition or dinner show. Location The upscale hotel is located on the island Als, in the centre of Sønderborg at the waterfront of the Alssund, just 35 minutes away by plane from Copenhagen, a mere 40 minutes drive from Germany, and a 2-hour drive from Hamburg. Onsite parking is available. Sustainability Alsik is 76% carbon neutral and a green hotel from basement to roof and is part of Sønderborg's vision to be carbon-neutral by 2029. Some of the most epoch-making events in the history of Denmark took place in the Sønderborg area where history always comes alive and is ubiquitous. For instance, you can explore burial mounds and dolmens, visit the area’s many beautiful castles or attend a tilting at the ring event when Sønderborg residents honour old medieval traditions over the summer. You can also wander in the footsteps of the gendarmes along the fjords or get close to life as a soldier during the Second Schleswig War of 1864.
