Featuring stunning views of the Calder Valley, The New Hobbit offers a striking bar and the Hearty Hobbit restaurant, serving delicious dishes using locally sourced ingredients. In the market town of Sowerby Bridge, it also has free private parking and free Wi-Fi in public areas. This traditional, Yorkshire stone property offers rooms which include a flat-screen TV, handcrafted solid ash furniture, and tea and coffee making facilities. The en suite bath or shower rooms have complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer. Guests can relax with a bar drink on handmade Chesterfield sofas in the lounge or on the outdoor decking area, overlooking the countryside. The New Hobbit is just half a mile from Sowerby Bridge Railway Station, which has direct links to Leeds and Manchester. The country inn has facilities for conferences and corporate events of up to 100 delegates.

Once upon a time in 2016, Matt Levy, founder of Covert Cocktail Club, hosted a secret speakeasy as an intimate place for strangers to gather in his home. The only way to find out about it was via word of mouth. No address was given, the only clue being a sign placed in the window, “Cocktails Here”.
A lot of people thought it was pretty cool, even before The New York Times wrote about it. But that was all pre-pandemic, and this is a new era.
