Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple

This Buddhist temple is built on an site that throughout history was used to leave the bodies of people that had no relatives or friends to bury or cremate them. The temple's graveyard contains the graves of at least 8,000 unknown people. A ceremony dedicate to these people is held on 23rd August each year and involves the lighting of 1,000 candles.

UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Kinkakuji Buddhist temple was first built in 1397 by shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu as his retirement villa. The upper floors of the temple are re-clad in gold leaf once every 20 years. The gardens are famous for the mirror pond and sekka-tei tea house.

A studio that has been following the techniques of Kyo-Yuzen since its inception more than 100 years ago. In addition to experiencing traditional crafts, our studio is a place to learn about Kyoto’s culture and history at a Machiya (traditional timber townhouse in Kyoto).
