Gateway of India

Historiska landmärken
9 km bort
Mumbai's most famous monument, it was built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone. Ironically, when the Raj ended in 1947, this colonial symbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway.

Siddhivinayak Temple

Rekreation
4 km bort
The old temple was consecrated on Thursday, 19th November 1801. The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Ganesh. It is located in Prabhadevi. It was originally built by Mr. Laxman Vithu and Mrs. Deubai Patil in November 19, 1801. The temple has a small mandap (hall) with the shrine for Siddhi Vinayak ("Ganesh that grants your wish"). The wooden doors to the sanctum are carved with images of the Ashtavinayak (the eight manifestations of Ganesh in Maharashtra). The inner roof of the sanctum is plated with gold, and the central statute is of Ganesh. In the periphery of the temple, there is a Hanuman temple as well.

Historiska landmärken
6 km bort
This terminus is undoubtedly the British piece de resistance, complete with carved stone friezes, stained glass windows and flying buttresses. At the top of the central dome stands the triumphant figure of Progress. The station was christened to commemorate Victoria Jubilee Day in 1887 when India's first steam engine puffed out to neighbouring Thane, about 45 kms away.

Queens Necklace

Nattliv
10 km bort
Marine Drive is a 3-kilometre-long boulevard in South Mumbai in the city of Mumbai. The highlight of Marine drive is the beautiful promenade along the road where many of the citizens take in a breath of fresh air and view the daily sunsets. At the northern end of Marine Drive is Chowpatty Beach. Real estate prices along the esplanade are among the highest in India, and fourth in the world. Many hotels dot the drive, namely The Oberoi, Trident & the Intercontinental. Marine Drive is also known as the Queen's Necklace because if viewed at night from an elevated point anywhere along the drive, the street lights resemble a string of pearls, forming a necklace. It is also the world's largest viewing gallery and hence has been a host to a number of events that take place along the promenade.

Dhobi Ghat

Historiska landmärken
2 km bort
A unique feature of Mumbai, the dhobi is a traditional laundryman, who will collect your dirty linen, wash it, and return it neatly pressed to your doorstep. The laundries are called Dhobi Ghats which have rows of concrete wash pens each fitted with its own flogging stone. The clothes are soaked in sudsy water, thrashed on the flogging stones, then tossed into huge vats of boiling starch and hung out to dry. Next they are ironed and piled into neat bundles. Two hundred dhobis and their families work together in what has always been a hereditary occupation.
