Ontvangkamer (1.10 on floorplan)

According to Berlage, the Beurs van Berlage was to encourage the spiritual development of people and would be a wonderful community work. Artists were put to work to decorate the Exchange center with as a central theme “the trade history of the Netherlands”. In accordance with the spirit of the times, all the artises were more or less followers of symbolism. This meant that they did not immediately reveal the significance of their work. In 1907 the Ontvangkamer (reception room) was used as the boardroom of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Today, this room is still used as a meeting room.
