The American Revolution began here in 1775. Sites include North Bridge, site of “the shot heard ’round the world” and the five-mile Battle Road Trail. The grounds, trails and parking areas of Minute Man National Historical Park are open daily, from sunrise to sunset. The park closes at sunset. There is no fee to visit the park.

Opened and dedicated on Jan. 27, 1998, the center proudly bears the name of the late Senator Paul E. Tsongas, a Lowell native. The Salem Witch Museum examines one of the most enduring and emotional events in American History, the Salem witch trials of 1692. The museum consists of two presentations. The first provides an immersive look into the events of 1692. Visitors experience the drama of that dark time though thirteen life-size stage sets, figures, lighting and narration as they are witness to the web of lies and intrigue of the Salem witch-hunt. Our second exhibit, Witches: Evolving Perceptions, explores the meaning behind the word witch and evolution of the image of the witch over time. This presentation focuses on the European witch trials and the background leading to the Salem witch trials. In addition, this presentation discusses the emergence of the stereotypical witch and the phenomenon of witch-hunting. The museum is open year-round, every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and in January for several weeks as we close to paint and prepare the museum for the upcoming season. Presentations are offered every half-hour from 10:00AM to 4:30PM, with extended hours in July, August, and October. Plan to allow at least one hour for your visit. For our international visitors, we offer our main presentation in French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Mandarin, and Cantonese by request. PLEASE NOTE: The museum presentation depicts tragic history, including a tableau of the Devil, the pressing of Giles Corey, and hanging of George Burroughs. These tableaux may not be suitable for all audiences. We have modified our mask policy. Visitors can choose to mask or not. We will continue to monitor city, state, and CDC guidelines and may make changes to this policy as needed. Observe butterflies sipping from flowers, basking in the sunshine and flying freely in a natural habitat. Enjoy our koi fish and quail birds which live among the butterflies. Visit the “show and tell bench” where a staff member is always available to answer your questions and help make your visit fun. See eggs, caterpillars or other interesting creatures up close. Watch a 15 minute, continuously running video which explains the butterfly life cycle and shares fun facts. Explore exhibits where you may observe eggs, caterpillars, cocoons and chrysalides. Each display gives information about the species featured. Visit our gift shop where butterfly hatching kits are sold. You can hatch and release a live butterfly or moth! We make it easy and fun! We also offer gift certificates and a wide range of unique butterfly-themed gifts, jewelry, books, inexpensive souvenirs, and educational materials. Many of our most popular items are also available online, with mail orders available year round. Parking at The Butterfly Place is free and plentiful. All areas are handicapped accessible, and strollers are welcomed and encouraged. The butterfly flight area is kept at 80-85 degrees as butterflies need warmth to fly. Dress appropriately. There is air conditioning in all other areas. Most visitors spend about one hour to enjoy their visit. Your admission is valid for the entire day, so you may “come and go” as you please. There is no place to eat inside. The Butterfly Place does offer an outdoor picnic area, where there is a covered tent available from April through the end of the season (see schedule). In addition, there are nearby places to go for coffee, lunch or ice cream. Don’t forget your camera!

Canobie Lake Park is an amusement park in Salem, New Hampshire, located about 31 miles north of Boston. It was founded as a trolley park on the shore of Canobie Lake in 1902. Three local families currently run the park, which draws visitors from throughout the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The Lowell Memorial Auditorium is an indoor auditorium in downtown Lowell, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is dedicated to local veterans of war. The 2,800-seat venue was built in 1922 by the architectural firm of Blackall, Clapp & Whittemore.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre is a non-profit professional theatre located in Lowell, Massachusetts.

In 1857, Amos Bronson Alcott purchased 12 acres of land with a manor house that had been on the property since the 1660s for $945. He then moved a small tenant farmhouse and joined it to the rear of the larger house, making many improvements over the course of the next year, as he detailed in his journals. The grounds also contained an orchard of 40 apple trees which greatly appealed to Mr. Alcott, who considered apples the most perfect food. It is not surprising, then, that he should name his home "Orchard House." After moving more than twenty times in nearly thirty years, the Alcotts had finally found their anchoring place at Orchard House, where they lived until 1877. The house is most noted for being where Louisa May Alcott wrote and set her beloved classic, Little Women, in 1868 at a "shelf desk" her father built especially for her. Fortunately, there have been no major structural changes to the house since the Alcotts' time, with ongoing preservation efforts adhering to the highest standards of authenticity. Since approximately 80% of the furnishings on display were owned by the Alcotts, the rooms look very much as they did when the family lived here, causing many modern-day visitors to comment that, "A visit to Orchard House is like a walk through Little Women!" Guided tours introduce visitors to the family members themselves, the household items that held meaning to them, their individual and collective achievements and lasting impact, as well as their influence on characters in the beloved novel, Little Women.
