Its charming shopping streets, cosy cafés and exciting eateries make Grünerløkka a warm and lively district. After going shopping at Grünerløkka’s numerous design boutiques, vintage shops and flea markets, enjoy a picknick in one of its many parks or eat dinner underneath string lights. In this district’s streets, skateboards and prams coexist peacefully and it’s a good idea to explore Grünerløkka on foot. The Akerselva river constitutes the western border of Grünerløkka. Walking along the riverside path through parks, past the Mathallen foodcourt and through the counterculture centre at Blå gives you an exciting insight into the area’s industrial history. North of Grünerløkka is the Torshov district. Torshov’s restaurant scene is constantly innovating and it is home to Soria Moria and Det Andre Teatret – two venues for alternative theatre and music as well as Oslo’s impro-theatre scene.

Aker Brygge / Tjuvholmen - The Harbor

Aker Brygge is known for its strip of restaurants along the boardwalk, with plenty of opportunities for al fresco wining and dining. If you want to add something new to your wardrobe, there are plenty of clothing shops in the cosy shopping alleys just behind. On a sunny day, you can take a stroll along the bustling promenade. If you feel peckish, you can get a snack from the many food trucks parked there and enjoy it whilst sitting along the pier, taking in the view of the Oslo fjord. A bridge connects Aker Brygge to Tjuvholmen (EN: the thief islet). Tjuvholmen is not only one of Oslo’s newest quarters, it is also a must-see for all design and architecture aficionados. The area is known for its rich, architectural diversity and the many art installations in between the houses. There are also a lot of galleries on Tjuvholmen, as well as the Astrup Fearnley Museum, which situated at the outermost tip of the island, between its sculpture park and a small beach. The restaurants on Tjuvholmen are known for their high standards and unique surroundings. All of this makes Tjuvholmen one of the parts of Oslo you do not want to miss.
