About us

The Alfandega Porto Congress Centre is the ideal place for business, scientific, cultural and commercial events. It is one of the largest and most versatile venues in Portugal and considered the best congress centre in the country. Other than the 24 multifunctional rooms which are part of its flexible area of 50.000sq m2, the congress centre has built-in translation booths, a private 400 car parking area and free access for all delegates to our 3 permanent cultural and museological spaces. All of this complements the events hosted at our venue to enhance any experience. The Alfândega Porto Congress Centre was built over 160 years ago and used to be a customs house. Recently recovered by Pritzer-prize Portuguese architect Souto Moura, the building maintains its original architecture with singular shapes and spaces that surprises all visitors every single time. From the outside, the centenary building, outstanding from the rest of Porto´s landscape but still harmonious with the city´s streets and river line, faithful to the unique urban and natural landscape. From the inside, combined with the mix of materials such as stone, iron, brick and wood that are characteristic from its astonishing construction, there is a fully equipped and completely modern congress centre with everything required to host any type of event, from international congresses to huge fashion shows, gala dinners, sport events or car exhibitions. The building is located in the heart of Porto´s historic city centre, World Heritage Site by Unesco and recently recognized for the second time as “European Best Destination” by European´s Consumer´s Choice (2012, 2014 and 2017). The city of Porto is gaining territory on every tourist´s map due to the various awards it has been winning in the past years, for its diversity, culture, architecture, history and for to its unique wine and gastronomy. The Congress Centre has great accesses for participants from every corner of the world. It is just 15 minutes away from the Porto International Airport, which has over 60 direct flights worldwide and was considered the 3rd best European Airport by ACI – Airports Council International. The congress centre is also easily reached by train and car and for transportation inside the city, the bus and metro lines are very modern and useful. Right by the river bank, the congress centre has its own shipping dock which can be used for several activities. For example, participants of an event can arrive by boat after a river cruise or depart after meetings to the other side of the river, where they may find all of the world famous port wine cellars.
