This mountain massif was named after the lynx, in Croatian ris, its most popular inhabitant. It covers the area of 64 km2 and being located where the Alps meet the Dinaric Range and where the Mediterranean gradually gives way to the Pannonia Plain, it combines almost all the forest types of the areas and contains numerous plant and animal species. Nature lovers come to Risnjak for the beauty of the mountains, forests, waters and karst. The most frequent visitors are mountaineers, who find the highest peak of the massif the most rewarding challenge. Risnjak’s summit is equally attractive in all seasons: in winter, when covered with snow; in spring, when the meadows around it transform into carpets of flowers; in summer when it offers respite from the heat in the nearby littoral area, and in autumn, when the trees are bathed in a myriad of colors. In addition to lynx, the symbol of the mountain, there are also brown bears, martens and dormice. Risnjak is also famous for its fantastic views of the islands in the Kvarner Bay and the mountains in neighboring Slovenia and further to the Alps.

Trsat Castle

The Trsat Castle represents a strategically embossed lookout on a hill 138 meters above sea level dominating Rijeka. It was mentioned as a parochial center for the first time in 1288. At this same site there was a Liburnian observation post from prehistoric times, used for monitoring the roads leading from the hinterland to the coast. This location served well to the Romans to establish their defense system, the so-called Liburnian limes, whose starting point was the Tarsatica fortress town – which was situated at the site of today’s Old City of Rijeka.

Učka is the only mountain in the Dinaric mountain range stretching northeast-southwest, perpendicularly to the direction of the Dinarides. The steep slopes displaying alternations of rocks, woods and grassland and offering spectacular views from their tops, numerous water springs and settlements, separateness and closeness to the sea make Učka unique and special. This mountain is equally wonderful to look at from the inland of Istria, Rijeka or Gorski Kotar, as well as from the islands of Kvarner. Of course, it is even more beautiful to explore it from the inside, which is not difficult as the entire Učka is interwoven with a network of mountain trails.

Yes, Hilton is committed to reducing waste across our portfolio. All of our hotels were required to remove plastic straws, stir sticks and cocktail picks in 2019, and we are currently transitioning from individual bath toiletries to full-size dispensers.
