Parque Forestal
Forestal Park is a beautiful place right by the Mapocho River in the middle of the city.
Created by Jorge Dubois, the park is a display of the 19th century aesthetic.
In it you can find the German Fountain, the Independence Witters Monument, Bruna Palace, The Fine Arts National Museum and the Contemporian Art Museum (MAC), and others.
Museo Nacional de Historia Natural
The Natural History museum was founded on September 14, 1830, by the French scholar Claude Gay, hired by the Chilean government to carry out a comprehensive study of Chile and to 'set up a museum of Natural History containing the main mineral and vegetable productions of the country’.
Since 1876 the museum has been housed in the premises of a neoclassical building at Parque Quinta Normal in Santiago, built by the French architect Paul Lathoud in 1875. It is located inside the Quinta Normal, west of downtown Santiago. There is easy access by public transport: you can take the Metro, Line 1, getting off at "Estación Central". Several bus services also go to Parque Quinta Normal.
Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes
The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) is one of the main centers for the dissemination of visual arts in Chile. Founded on September 18, 1880, under the name National Museum of Paintings, is the first Latin American art. Since 1910 he has occupied a building in the area of Forest Park, in the municipality of Santiago. The Palacio de Bellas Artes, designed by Chilean architect Emile Jéquier and built to commemorate the centenary of the country, was named historical monument in 1976.
The museum has an artistic heritage consists of more than 3000 pieces, acquired through purchases, donations and prizes official salons. It has the selection of the country's largest Chilean sculpture and the second collection of national painting fuller of the nation after the House of Art. The surviving works of the museum include the artistic production of the country since colonial times also retains cores universal art, highlighting the collections of Italian, Spanish and Flemish paintings, collection of printed collections drawings and photographs, and a collection of African sculptures
Plaza de Armas
Santiago´s Main Square was the principal civic center when Santiago was found by the Spaniards in the 16th century.
In Colony times, the square was used for popular activities like fairs and civil ceremonies. as well as commercial activities. During the Bernardo O´Higgins government, the commercial activity migrated to the Central Market.
In the 19th century, authorities ordered to construct gardens and a place for music in the square.
In 1999, the main square was rebuilt thanks to the construction of a new subway line. Gardens were reconstructed and it now has a more modern look.
Mercado Central
The Mercado Central Santiago is located in the municipality of Santiago, considered the center of the Chilean capital, between the streets Ismael Valdes Vergara, May 21, San Pablo and Bridge. The building was build in 1869 and was inaugurated on August 23, 1872, 142 years ago.
It was declared a historic monument on 15 June 19841 and integrate circuit "patrimonial Santiago" of the "Ruta Capital". In June 2012, National Geographic magazine highlighted the Santiago Market as the fifth best in the world.
