The Brunswick Royal Palace was badly damaged in World War II and completely demolished in 1960. In 2007, 47 years after the demolition of the castle walls, including more than 600 original parts, have been rebuilt. The residence of the Guelphs was reconstructed from old maps and historical photos in original size and the ancient place. Next to the place is the great shopping mall "Schloss-Arkaden" where about 150 shops and restaurants are situated. On the top of the historical castle is the the largest Quadriga of Europe with the city goddess Brunonia.

The state theater Brunswick founded in 1690 by Dutch Anton Ulrich from Braunschweig-Lüneburg was one of the first public theaters in the German-speaking area. First it was a pure opera business but from the mid-18th century regular theater performances also take place. With an average of 30 firsts and 10 symphony concerts in the town hall each season, the state theatre Brunswick has next to the Great house two other venues: the little house and the house three in the Magnidistrict.
