Since October, 30th 2005 the steeple of the Frauenkirche overtops the Dresden skyline again.The reconstruction of the church is an impressive symbol of international reconciliation after World War II. The consecration attracted attention throughout the world. More than 2 million people have already visited the church. The Church of Our Lady was erected between 1726 and 1743, following the designs of George Bähr. Its characteristic dome, called the "stone bell" owing to its shape, collapsed on February 15th, 1945 under the rain of bombs. An anti-war monument during the GDR period, the rebuilding is finished now. The Frauenkirche is a symbol of conciliation, largely with donations from German and international foundations. The Neumarkt quarter around the church is also to regain its status as the historical heart of the city.
Park "Great Garden"

The Great Garden park, which is located in the southwest of the city center, is Dresden's biggest and most beautiful park. The future elector Johann Georg III. commissioned in 1676 the creation of a representative park in front of the town gates. In 1683, the palace was built in an early Baroque style. The park and palace soon became the scene of electoral representation. Nowadays, the park with its wide-ranging gardens is one of Dresden's most popular recovery resorts. Several open-air stages invite the visitor to cultural events, in the palace one can attend concerts, and every now and then festive balls and fireworks take place in the park. On the edge of the park one can find the Botanical and Zoological Garden. The miniature park railroad, which is in operation since 1950, takes the visitor on an extensive tour through the Great Garden park.
The Green Vault

The Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault) enjoys world renown as one of Europe’s most sumptuous treasure chambers. Having been on exhibit in the Albertinum for thirty years, the famous collection of the Wettin electors is now returned to its historic home in the Dresden Royal Palace. In two exhibition areas "Neues Grünes Gewölbe" (New Green Vault) and "Historisches Grünes Gewölbe" (Historic Green Vault) of very different character, visitors will experience these magnificent artworks of gold, silver, precious gems, enamel, ivory, bronze and amber in an intensity unparalleled to date.
Semper Opera House

Built 1838-41 by Gottfried Semper. Gutted by fire in 1869. Rebuilt 1871-78 in High Renaissance style according to Semper´s plans by his son Manfred. The house was completely destroyed in 1945 and reopened in 1985 after extensive reconstruction. It is the only theater in Germany that bears the name of its architect.
