Nestled in a valley in the Odenwald mountain range, Germany’s prettiest town is the stuff of fairytales. Home to Germany’s oldest university which is still ranked in the top three of the country, students make up about a quarter of the city’s population. That means plenty of beer gardens and fun events throughout the year. Heidelberg has always inspired creatives with its historic buildings and nature-loving ways. Goethe and Mark Twain wrote about its beauty and William Turner painted some of his most famous landscapes here. There must be something in the water… Wander around the cobbled Altstadt (Old Town) and survey the city from its hilltops to see for yourself.
