You may even get lucky and view a Gila Monster, Bobcat, or other animals that are adapt to our 100 + degree summers and mild winters. The Sonoran desert has two rainy seasons: gentle winter rains and a dramatic summer monsoon. Due to winter's snow melt and summer's electrifying lightning storms, Sabino Creek flows almost year around.
Catalina State Park sits at the base of the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains. The park is a haven for desert plants and wildlife and nearly 5,000 saguaros. The 5,500 acres of foothills, canyons and streams invites camping, picnicking and bird watching — more than 150 species of birds call the park home. The park provides miles of equestrian, birding, hiking, and biking trails which wind through the park and into the Coronado National Forest at elevations near 3,000 feet.
Take off on any of eight airlines flying nonstop to 19 destination airports from Tucson International Airport (TUS) with convenient one-stop connections to more than 345 cities around the world.
Mount Lemmon is the highest point in the Santa Catalina Mountains, topping out at more than 9,000 feet. Top cyclists from around the world come here to train on one of the best tests of climbing and descending in the country. Take the drive slowly, especially in areas with tight switchbacks, to give cyclists plenty of room.
Reid Park Zoo’s mission is “to encourage commitment to the conservation of biological diversity and to provide educational and fun experiences for visitors of all ages.”
The Zoo, founded in 1965 with a collection of birds, prairie dogs, farm animals, and a few squirrel monkeys, has expanded to a 24-acre campus that houses hundreds of animals in naturalistic exhibits and annually hosts over 600,000 visitors. Reid Park Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
Just fifteen minutes from Tucson at the base of the Tucson Mountains is a preserved slice of Americana, Old Tucson. Passing through the gates of a western frontier town, visitors from around the globe are transported back to a time when fearless men with six shooters ruled the Old West and the setting for the more than 300 movies and television productions filmed at the location since 1939.
Expanding beyond the movie sets and memorabilia of this rich film history, Old Tucson is now the premier attraction in the Southwest to experience what life in Old West was really like. Just a stroll down the street is an adventure as you lean the perils of a cross-country trip by stagecoach or the demands of life as the sheriff of a Wild West town. Turning the corner, you might find yourself learning the ways of Native peoples in the Native Village.
A lush oasis in the heart of Tucson offering mature trees and expertly cultivated foliage, specialty gardens such as the Cactus & Succulent Garden, Barrio Garden, and Herb Garden highlight the diversity of native plants.
This half-mile long guided walk takes about 40 minutes to complete. It’s the perfect family-friendly introduction to the Cave. You’ll learn about the Cave’s history, its legends (like train robbers and ghosts), and its unique geology. As you descend approximately six stories deep (363 stair steps) you’ll see some amazing cave formations including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, box work, and helictites that were sculpted by millions of years of geological activity. And keep an eye out for the wildlife too!
Tours are given daily on the hour, year-round. No special gear is needed on this tour, just comfortable walking shoes. This is our most popular tour and space is limited so make your reservation early to ensure your place.
NOTE: No Children under 5 allowed on tour
The cave is a crystal-filled, dry cave that was opened to the public in the 1930's. Visitors can take a tour, browse in the historical museum, relax in the wooded picnic areas, hike, sluice for gemstones and enjoy the Southwestern gift shop.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base's role in the storage of military aircraft began after World War II, and continues today.
It has evolved into "the largest aircraft boneyard in the world".
With the area's low humidity in the 10%-20% range, meager rainfall of 11" annually, hard alkaline soil, and high altitude of 2,550 feet allowing the aircraft to be naturally preserved for cannibalization or possible reuse, Davis-Monthan is the logical choice for a major storage facility.
The geology of the desert allows aircraft to be moved around without having to pave the storage areas.
Part of Tucson City Golf, Randolph Municipal is home to two golf courses - Randolph North and Randolph Dell Urich. Randolph North is Tucson City Golf's longest course at just over 6,900 yards from the championship tees and just short of 6,000 yards from the short tees. Dell Urich hosts spectacular views and dramatic elevation changes, and is the former home of the Tucson LPGA tour stop.
Tohono Chul Park is a botanical garden, nature preserve, and cultural museum located in Casas Adobes, a suburb of Tucson, Arizona. The words "tohono chul" translate as "desert corner" and are borrowed from the language of the Tohono O’odham, the indigenous people of southern Arizona. The mission of Tohono Chul is to connect people with the nature, art and culture of the Sonoran Desert region.
The 49-acre site offers a setting for Tohono Chul's regional focus. Overlooking the Santa Catalina Mountains, the park is located in a natural desert habitat within existing migratory tracks of several species of native fauna. Thirty-eight species of birds make their permanent home in the park while another 57 migrant species visit seasonally, and a variety of reptiles and mammals, from Gila monsters to bobcats, may be spotted on the grounds.
In 2008, Travel+Leisure Magazine named Tohono Chul one of the Great Botanical Gardens of the World.
A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.
The oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. It is a place where visitors can truly step back in time and enter an authentic 18th Century space.
The church retains its original purpose of ministering to the religious needs of its parishioners.
