Opened in 2014, Meliá Vienna is located in the tallest building in Austria, the Donau City Tower designed by the French star architect Dominique Perrault. The 220 meter, 58 level high building is Austria's first sustainable green building certificated by the European Union. All 253 spacious and modern rooms, including 25 design suites, are fitted with floor-to-ceiling windows and offer spectacular views on the Danube and the city. The Donauinsel (Danube Island) is a long, narrow island in central Vienna, Austria, lying between the Danube river and the parallel excavated channel Neue Donau ("New Danube"). The island is 21.1 km (13.1 mi) in length, but is only 70–210 m (230–689 ft) wide.[1] The New Danube waterway is practically an elongated (swimming) lake, technically a diluvian bed.[2] It has been described as an "autobahn for swimmers", due to its use by people commuting to work.

St. Stephen's Cathedral (more commonly known by its German title: Stephansdom) is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna and the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, OP. The current Romanesque and Gothic form of the cathedral, seen today in the Stephansplatz, was largely initiated by Duke Rudolf IV (1339–1365) and stands on the ruins of two earlier churches, the first a parish church consecrated in 1147. The most important religious building in Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral has borne witness to many important events in Habsburg and Austrian history and has, with its multi-coloured tile roof, become one of the city's most recognizable symbols.
