About us

An Elevated Escape from the City. Nestled over 100 secluded acres along the shores of the Toronto Reservoir, a serene outpost awaits your personalized retreat. With amenities and activities that are both private and purposeful, there are countless opportunities to unwind, explore and indulge. The Chatwal Lodge is located in the Lower Hudson Valley region of the Catskills Mountains, about two hours from New York City. Stays are inclusive of all meals, fine wines and spirits from our Reserve Collection, as well as all recreational activities.

Bastion Falls marks the trailhead to the trail to Kaaterskill Falls. It is located in Haines Falls along Route 23A, and is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Catskill Mountains. The hike from Bastion Falls to Kaaterskill Falls is ideal for beginners and should take approximately 30 minutes. Trail Parking: Please be advised that there is no parking on Route 23A to access the falls. You must park at the Laurel House Lane parking area or Scutt Road parking area. You can also access the Kaaterskill Trolley for $10.00 per day for drop off and pick up to and from the falls as well as other convenient stops between Tannersville and Palenville.

Location: Town of Mamakating, Sullivan County and Town of Deerpark, Orange County Wildlife Management Unit: 3M Map: Bashakill WMA map (PDF) || Google Earth || DECinfo Locator The primary purposes of Bashakill Wildlife Management Area (WMA) are for wildlife management, wildlife habitat management, and wildlife-dependent recreation. This 3,107-acre WMA contains the largest freshwater wetland in southeastern New York, and is a state designated Bird Conservation Area. Its 1,920-acre wetland is a birdwatcher's dream, drawing birders during the spring warbler migration and spring and fall waterfowl migrations due to the influx of interesting birds. Both bald eagles and osprey are commonly seen from the many easy access points. The forested uplands that surround the wetland provide a peaceful setting where one can enjoy a quiet walk in the woods. There is a substantial chestnut oak forest as well as ponds, fields, marshes, and swamps.
