Fascinating Art Nouveau The landmark of Bad Nauheim, the “Sprudelhof” (lit. Fountain Courtyard), is also part of Europe's largest enclosed Art Nouveau-ensemble. The complete work of art illustrates impressively what Art Nouveau is aiming at combining architecture, fine and applied arts as well as garden- and urban design. With the “Trinkkuranlage” (water cure facility) and further, partly technological, buildings the spa town has an Art Nouveau heritage of international importance. Thus, Bad Nauheim has been admitted to the European “Réseau Art Nouveau Network” as the first city in Germany.

Elvis in his European Home When Elvis Presley arrived at the U.S. military base 'Ray Barracks' in Friedberg to start his military service in Germany he chose to stay at the Parkhotel in Bad Nauheim. The hotel was pulled down in 1989. Only a week later, Elvis' father Vernon and his grandmother Minni Mae as well as two of his friends and bodyguards arrived in Bad Nauheim. They rented an entire floor in the "Grunewald Hotel" in the Terrassenstraße. Nowadays the square in front of the Hotel is appropriately named 'Elvis-Presley-Platz' with the 'Elvis-Stele' (memorial of Elvis) to commemorate the superstar. The hotel was pulled down in 1989. The stele has become a real place of pilgrimage for fans who lay down flowers, candles and personal messages written in many languages. Two very popular photo motifs definitely are the one at the bridge over the Usa-creek leading to the library and the other at the Burgpforte (castle entrance) which was used on the cover for “A Big Hunk O‘ Love“. Fans love to pose for photographs there, just as their idol did years ago. Close to the public library there is another exciting attraction: the private house 14, Goethestraße, where “the world‘s most famous soldier” relocated to with his father Vernon, his grandmother Minnie Mae and friends in 1958. This is also where the love story between him and his Priscilla began. Elvis lived in 14, Goethestraße until the end of his military service in March 1960. Those with a sweet tooth can even follow their idol in a culinary way: in the Café Bienenkorb a Chocolate Cake was given to Elvis as a surprise on his 25th birthday. To walk off the calories after the sweet treat, you should take a stroll to the graduation house IV where Elvis used to play soccer.

Rose magic with tradition In 1868, Heinrich Schultheis brought the skill of rose-growing from a hiking trip across England back home. This completely changed the history of his village. Each year more than two million roses are still produced in Germany's oldest rose village. From Bad Nauheim's city center the “Rosenchaussée” (Rose Avenue) which gorgeously blooms in summer leads visitors to "Steinfurth". During the festival a nostalgic arrival is possible with the historic “Rose Express” from Bad Nauheim’s train station. The leisurely journey offers views on the cultural landscape of the "Wetterau" and the rose fields along the way. Show gardens, rose schools and picturesque estates offer wonderful opportunities for romantic strolls through Steinfurth’s Rose-Mekka. The rose tradition is not only maintained in "Steinfurth". In 2005, Bad Nauheim won a gold medal for excellence in planning, designing and maintaining a constant bloom of the flowers and and green habitats in the national competition “Entente Florale”.

The Naturmuseum Senckenberg in Frankfurt is the second largest museum of natural history in Germany.
