Captain Dave’s daily dolphin and whale watching trips aboard high-tech catamarans can get you up close & personal with Blue Whales (May – November), Gray Whales (December – May), and year-round Fin Whales, Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, and occasionally Orcas (Killer Whales). Have you ever wanted to go ocean fishing but thought it was only for the professional? Well, we have good news for you! Dana Wharf Sportfishing offers fishing trips all year long and anyone can go – young, old, experienced or those out for their first trip. Our landing caters to the novice as well as the seasoned angler. Our knowledgeable crew and expert skippers who are always eager to help educate and instruct, if needed. The types of fish available to catch vary depending on the season and water temperature. They include Halibut, Barracuda, Yellowtail, White Sea Bass, Sand Bass, Calico Bass, Bonito, and even Tuna. You never know what you might reel in, and that is part of the magic of fishing. Our vessels are clean and our friendly, professional and experienced crew are there to help you! Our vessels offer a full galley with hot and cold food. Beer, soda, chips and candy are available for purchase (sorry, no coolers can be brought aboard the boat). The Nature Interpretive Center is located adjacent to the CNLM Dana Point Preserve, at the terminus of Scenic Drive (Green Lantern becomes Scenic Drive). The facility includes educational, management and operational space designed as a visitor center for the Conservation Area. The Center is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. Public walks are offered at 9am on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Saturdays of every month. The Ocean Institute, founded in 1977 as the Orange County Marine Institute, is a community-based non profit organization that offers in-depth Marine Science, Maritime History and Outdoor Education programs. The facility includes state-of-the-art teaching labs, the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, two historic tallships, and an oceanographic research vessel. Immersion-based field trips range from one-hour science labs to multi-day programs at sea. All programs are designed to maximize immersion, spark curiosity, and inspire a deep commitment to learning. Ocean-based exhibits are open to the public seven days a week. The Ocean Institute also offers organized family programs, summer camps, cruises, tallship sails, and other unique events including our annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival and the Festival of Whales. Meetings and groups will find a wide variety of options from hosting a welcome reception on a tall ship to an intimate gathering around a fire circle, to large state-of-the-art meeting facilities.
