Just steps from Elevation EJI will be opening the newest Legacy Site, Montgomery Square. Utilizing art, sculpture, video, narrative and new research, Montgomery Square will explore the Montgomery decade between 1955 and 1965 that changed the world. The Montgomery Bus Boycott that began in December 1955 ushered in a decade of large-scale activism, organizing, and litigation that largely ended codified racial segregation and Jim Crow practices in America. The Montgomery movement inspired civil rights activism across the nation. Culminating in the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march- which processed under the bridge of Elevation- and the resulting Voting Rights Act of 1965, Montgomery was the center of the civil rights movement in the United States. Visitors to Montgomery Square will learn about the city's historic and central role in the continuing fight for freedom, racial equality, and justice in America.

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice

A short 6 minute walk from the hotel, guests will be deeply impacted by The National Memorial for Peace and Justice. The National Memorial is a sacred space for truth telling and reflection about racial terrorism and its legacy.
On a hilltop overlooking Montgomery is the nation’s first comprehensive memorial dedicated to the legacy of Black Americans who were enslaved, terrorized by lynching, humiliated by racial segregation, and presumed guilty and dangerous.
More than 4,400 Black people killed in racial terror lynchings between 1877 and 1950 are remembered here. Their names are engraved on more than 800 corten steel monuments—one for each county where a racial terror lynching took place—that form the main structure of the memorial at the heart of this six-acre site.

Overlooking the Alabama River, Freedom Monument Sculpture Park honors the lives and memories of the 10 million Black people who were enslaved in America and celebrates their courage and resilience.
At this 17-acre site along the very river where tens of thousands of enslaved people were trafficked, breathtaking art and original artifacts invite an immersive, interactive journey and provide a unique view into the lives of enslaved people.
Listen to Muscogee family stories as they were told centuries ago on this very spot. Step inside a train car like those used to traffic enslaved people to Montgomery as you hear trains pass on nearby tracks originally laid by enslaved people. Stand before an authentic dwelling inhabited by enslaved people and marvel at sculptures created from bricks made by enslaved artisans.

The Rosa Parks Museum is an active memorial to the life of civil rights icon Rosa Parks and the lessons of the Montgomery Bus Boycott that brought racial integration to transportation and international attention to civil rights. Located in downtown Montgomery, Alabama at the site where Mrs. Parks was arrested, it is the nation's only museum dedicated to Rosa Parks. Its mission is to honor her legacy and that of the boycott by providing a platform for scholarly dialogue, civic engagement, and positive social change.
The museum's collection contains a number of historically significant artifacts including the original fingerprint arrest record of Mrs. Parks, a 1950s-era Montgomery city bus, original works of art including statuary and quilts, court documents and police reports, as well as a restored 1955 station wagon (known as a "rolling church") used to transport protesters.

Originally built in 1929 by L.H. Pennington, the buildings that have become the core of Iron City Birmingham have had a long history in the auto industry and left a lasting impression on the Southside landscape. Our historic location was considered one of the most modern car facilities of its time. It is fitting that Iron City’s reconstruction was driven by another entrepreneur in the car business, Steve DeMedicis.
In the design by Williams Blackstock Architects, two connected buildings underwent extensive renovation and construction in a two-floor layout that includes three concert stages, state of the art sound system, two bars and a restaurant. Today, it’s the most inspired music and event venue in the city, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
