The famous San Antonio Riverwalk: Walk, shop, dine, and enjoy the hospitality of our world-renowned urban waterway.
Hop aboard a river taxi and discover for yourself why millions visit every year.
Recognized as one of the most ornate facilities in the country, the Majestic has long held a special place in the archives of Texas theatrical and architectural history. Located at 224 E. Houston Street in the heart of downtown San Antonio, the Majestic was designed and built in 1929 by John Eberson for Karl Hoblitzelle's Interstate Theatres, and stood proudly for many years as the largest theatre in Texas and the second largest motion picture theatre in the country.
It was intended to be the most modern and ornate building in South Texas - complete with new sound and projection equipment - and was the first theatre in the state to be totally air-conditioned.
More than 2.5 million people a year visit the 4.2 acre complex known worldwide as "The Alamo." Most come to see the old mission where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the Centralist army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Although the Alamo fell in the early morning hours of March 6, 1836, the death of the Alamo Defenders has come to symbolize courage and sacrifice for the cause of Liberty.
Situated along the banks of the River in the city’s heart, the historic Municipal Auditorium, with its original facade preserved, has been transformed into a world-class venue. This theatrical icon is once again the pride of the River and a shining beacon of creativity, fine art and downtown development. There is no better place — anywhere — to see and hear a live performance.
The Tobin Center features a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose 1,738-seat (2,100-seat with flat-floor configuration) performance hall, a 295-seat studio theater, and an outdoor performance plaza connected to the River Walk with a permanent 30 FT video wall and water taxi portal.
Historic Market Square was founded in 1718 by the Spanish settlers and houses one of San Antonio's landmarks - Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery as well as unique shopping that showcases San Antonio's roots to Span and Mexico. The original produce row also is also home to the famous "Chili Queens" that served their steaming spicy meaty dishes to hungry passer by that enjoyed the festive atmosphere in the thriving square. Today, this lively square is the heartbeat of the city during the many festivals that locals enjoy. There is always something good cooking at Market Square so a visit is worth the time.
The King William Historic District, located immediately south of downtown San Antonio on the east bank of the San Antonio River, was established in the 1840's, when a large number of Germans immigrated to Texas and settled in the vicinity of San Antonio. The main entry street into the area was named after Kaiser Wilhelm I, King of Prussia in the 1870's. During World War I the name was changed to Pershing Avenue, but a few years after the war the original name was restored, except in the English form of the name, King William, which the area has retained up to the present.
The King William neighborhood is rich in history and cultural diversity. The area includes three local and national historic districts, as well as properties individually recognized for their historical significance. The neighborhood offers bed and breakfasts, art galleries, restaurants, and a thriving commercial corridor known as Southtown. The KWA area is bordered by the Blue Star Arts Complex and its sister neighborhood, Lavaca.
Located on the south bank of the San Antonio River, San Antonio's first neighborhood is now a beautiful historic arts village where you can shop, dine or just take a peaceful walk.
Open Daily from 10 am to 6pm.
In November 1999, Bexar County voters overwhelmingly approved a partnership between the Spurs, Bexar County, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and the Coliseum Advisory Board to build a Bexar County-owned community arena that would serve as the new home for the Spurs and the Stock Show & Rodeo.

When visiting San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, plan to spend at least a couple of hours — four hours if you have the time. Free guided tours, movies, and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the week.
Besides the four historic missions and their churches, check out the grist mill at Mission San José, and the 270-year old Espada acequia (irrigation system) with its dam and aqueduct.
The Spanish missions were established on the frontier and there are still portions of native habitat excellent for birding. A section of the original river can be viewed from the nature trail at Mission San Juan.
