A visit to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica is more than a shopping experience. You'll stroll down the middle of a street that was closed to vehicular traffic years ago. Now pedestrians rule the road, at least within this three block stretch located within walking distance of the Santa Monica Pier and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Bordered by the Santa Monica Place shopping mall to the south, and busy Wilshire Boulevard to the north, Third Street is lined with a variety of shops ranging from traditional to unusual. Venice Beach is the busiest facility operated by the Department of Recreation and Parks. The Boardwalk, also known as Ocean Front Walk, is the second most-visited destination in Southern California, with an average of over ten (10) million visitors per year. The Venice Beach Recreation Center offers various activities including but not limited to basketball, paddle tennis and handball tournaments, body building at the world famous Muscle Beach Venice gym, and other special events. Venice Beach also offers a fishing pier, a world renowned skate plaza, bike path, two (2) children's play areas and provides a variety of services for the culturally diverse population that visits throughout the year. Film productions are also very popular at Venice Beach and occur year round. All of the sports courts, skate plaza, pier and other amenities are open to the general public on a daily basis.

An exceptionally versatile venue at Santa Monica Airport, Barker Hangar is a massive structure with room enough to create your own world and atmosphere. Originally constructed to house airplanes, the hangar can accommodate a wide range of vehicles, very large displays, stages and lighting, and big screens. The hangar’s distinguished roster of events includes the People’s Choice Awards, MTV Movie Awards, the Entertainment Software Association’s E3 Expo, TV Land Awards, TV Guide Awards, and Billboard Awards. Bands and individuals who have performed in the hangar for tour launches and other gigs include Duran Duran, Rod Stewart, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson. The 36,000-sq-ft Barker Hangar holds a capacity of 1,700 people at 8- to 10-top round dining tables, 2,200-2,400 seated concert-style, 2,500 standing with an additional 40,000 sq ft of space with tenting. An additional 2,000-sq-ft of office space is available by the day. Heating and air-conditioning are also available upon request.

Opening in 2012, the new Museum of Flying will be an ideal venue for a meeting or event with any focus on travel, airplanes, or aviation traditions. Emphasizing the history of Santa Monica’s pioneering Douglas Aircraft and Santa Monica Airport, the museum will feature the actual Douglas World Cruiser New Orleans—one of two aircraft that made the first round-the-world flight in 1924. The museum will also feature a seven-passenger flight simulator with a variety of ride-film experiences, as well as a 40-seat screening room/theater. The famous Donald Douglas Boardroom, with its huge round table, will offer a dramatic venue for meetings, conferences, and retreats. The boardroom can accommodate 20 at the historic table with an additional 20 participants seated along the perimeter of the room. The museum will be able to accommodate 100 to 150 for a sit-down function and about 250 during reception style events.
