The Augusta region was nationally known for its wine during the 19th century, but Prohibition halted the state’s winemaking for decades. Then, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, a few pioneering souls began to refurbish the old vineyards and winery buildings.
One of these pioneers was Clayton Byers, who founded Montelle Vineyards in 1970. The winery was later purchased in 1998 by present owner and wine maker Tony Kooyumjian.
The secret to our success in producing outstanding wines is our vineyards. The Augusta area was chosen as the first viticultural area in the United States because of our unique soils, microclimate, and history, and it is our mission to produce wines that exemplify the uniqueness of this eleven square mile area.
Our philosophy is to farm our vineyards with a respect for the land and the environment. As a result, our wines are fresh, fragrant, focused, and well balanced, but most of all, express the uniqueness of our vineyards. It is this attention to detail that has enabled us to produce wines that are continuously recognized for their uniqueness and superior quality.
In addition to our wines, Montelle is also the first winery in Missouri with a distillery. We produce four kinds of brandy: apple, peach, cherry and grape (grappa). Stepping into our tasting room will transform you into a complete state of relaxation. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you select the perfect wine for any occasion.
We also aspire to reveal the pleasures of pairing fine wine and food. Therefore, our Klondike Café offers fresh, high quality cuisine to complement our wines. Choose from a wide selection of gourmet wraps, salads, sandwiches and pizzas to be enjoyed on our vast deck, where it is easy to lose yourself in a magnificent view of the Missouri River Valley.
The next time you have a meeting, event or just a weekend outing to plan, please keep “Missouri’s most scenic winery” in mind.
In the early 1870s, a former slave traveled north from the Civil War-torn south and settled near Defiance, Missouri. Befriended by a family who lived on property next to that belonging to the family of Daniel Boone the freed man worked on their farm for many years and was married in the 1880s. Eventually, the family deeded him 40 acres of their land including a hill overlooking the beautiful Femme Osage Valley.
The man's name was Joseph Chandler who died in 1952 at the age of 103. Chandler Hill Vineyards operates on the same property he once owned. The tasting room and winery stands on the site of Joseph Chandler's modest cabin.
During excavation for the winery building many century-old artifacts were uncovered including a shotgun, rifle, stove remnants, buttons and china. These storied relics of Joseph Chandler are on display at the winery. The stones from the original cabin foundation were also carefully removed and are being used as a feature at the winery.

Augusta Winery, founded in 1988 by Tony Kooyumjian, is located in the scenic town of Augusta Missouri which is nestled on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River Valley. In 1980, Augusta was recognized as the first U.S. Wine District, or Viticultural Area #1, because of its unique soil, climate, historical significance, and quality of wines produced from grapes grown in vineyards that date to the 1800’s.
At Augusta Winery the managers and tasting staff are constantly trained on not only the wines we produce, but the wines of the world. It is through this training that they are able to educate and excite our customers about the merits of our wines and how to enjoy them to their fullest.
We take pride in our wines, which are vinted in small quantities so that special care may be given to each lot. It is this attention to detail that enabled Augusta Winery to win the Governor’s Cup for Best Missouri Wine in 2004, 2006, & 2007.
Augusta Winery’s award-winning wines may be enjoyed with locally produced cheese and sausage on the outdoor wine terrace or in our Wine & Beer Garden. The 17-foot monument was created from 22 tons of steel salvaged from the destruction of New York City’s World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. A plaque listing the victims of the terrorist attacks on the nation includes the names of 346 firefighters and 37 police officers who perished as they attempted to rescue victims trapped in the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.
Inside City Hall, a section of the World Trade Center’s red steel core is displayed in a Plexiglas case. The material for both monuments was presented to O’Fallon by the City of New York in 2001
Shrine of Saint Philippine Duchesne, Academy of the Sacred Heart
博物館
The Shrine of St. Philippine Duchesne was begun in 1951 to honor this pioneer Religious of the Sacred Heart. Cardinal Glennon of St. Louis was one of the strong proponents of the building of the Shrine, which he envisioned as a basilica to honor the new Beata. However, he died in 1946 and so it was Archbishop Ritter who presided over the groundbreaking. On June 13, 1952, the sarcophagus was moved into the finished Shrine.
Initially, the Shrine was a freestanding building and was not connected to the Academy until the south wing of the school was added in 1961. The Shrine remains unfinished according to its original plan, which called for a cross-shaped building with the longest nave stretching out to the south. When funds were exhausted, however, the building was finished to its present size.

Saint Charles County Heritage Museum at Heritage Park
公園
The County Heritage Museum at Heritage Park offers FREE interpretive displays focusing on local and state history and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wed. through Sat., and noon to 5 p.m., on Sun. Rich in St. Charles County history, the nearly 6,000-square foot facility, located on a site known to many as Kuhlmann's Grove, was a popular recreation area for county residents for nearly a hundred years. The Museum is designed to house large exhibit displays, which will be changed out yearly. The current transportation display, On the Move…A History of Transportation in St. Charles County, features rivers, rails and roads. The new exhibit showcases several interactive components, including touchscreen maps, a model bridge building area, and a steamboat pilot house that simulates the experience of navigating a vessel up the Missouri River. Other areas of the Museum feature displays about the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroads and the bridges of past and present in St. Charles County.
No other monument in the United States is quite like the Veterans Memorial Walk, which was dedicated in 2001 as a place to honor all U.S. soldiers, past and present. Each year, thousands of people visit the Walk, which is free and open to the public 24/7. All are welcome, and parking is available.
The site is unique, with a platoon of cast bronze boots positioned as though marching. A solitary pair of boots is stationed at the foot of the POW/MIA flag, and an eternal flame burns continuously.
Public ceremonies scheduled at the Walk include Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, POW/MIA Remembrance Day and Veterans Day.
Meet and chat with the people who know O’Fallon’s history best as you tour the Log Cabin Museum. Tours are available by appointment and during special events. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

QRHC is most fortunate to be “caretakers” of this beautiful National Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame building. When the Quail Ridge Park was chosen to be the site of the NHPA/NHPF Hall of Fame facility because of its central location, our original club (New Melle Horseshoe Club) was selected to be its custodian. Our club, which includes over 300 members, does exactly what we agreed to do – we take care of it. The facility which is some 22,000 square feet is huge and takes lots of volunteers to keep it going. So when you join our club we hope you will consider this and be quick to volunteer in any field which you can help. Volunteers are needed for: computer stats, concession stand helpers, “pit crew”, hosting at the Hall of Fame – four days a week, clean up once a month, scorekeepers, health and welfare, communications, etc. There is a place for you and your participation is appreciated

In 1978, the City of O’Fallon purchased both the Historic Heald Home and park property on which it stood for $1 from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. In 2001, the City restored the Heald Home, maintaining the original interior woodwork and reopening the fireplaces throughout the house. Since then, the Heald Home has served as one of the City’s historic attractions.
Darius Heald, a prominent figure in O’Fallon’s history, built the stately brick home circa 1884-1886 on his farm of about 1,000 acres, which he called “Stony Point Plantation.”
The Heald Home’s architectural style is German-Italianate-Victorian, with hipped-roof construction and economical coal-burning fireplaces, which have been converted to gas.
