The Royal Castle

The original building of Zamek Krolewski, as it is known locally, dates back to the 16th century. But as with much of Warsaw, it was destroyed during WWII. It was rebuilt and reconstructed and to ensure its future it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Historically, the Royal Castle was the formal residence of Polish monarchy and this stunning castle was the envy of much of Europe. When Poland gained independence it then became the official residence of the president. Today, the Royal Castle is a national museum open to the public.

The Old Town

Warsaw’s Old Town is the most historic area of the city, located on the beautiful banks of the River Vistula. The old town in Warsaw dates back to as early as the 13th century. During the WWII it was completely destroyed, leaving only rubble behind. The Old Town was rebuilt and many buildings have been restored to their former glory or replicated where possible. In 1980 the old town in Warsaw was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, ensuring its protection for the future.

Palace of Culture and Science

The Palace of Culture and Science is not just a popular tourist attraction but one of the dominating features and landmarks of the Warsaw skyline. It remains the tallest building in Poland, and one of the tallest in Europe, standing at 231 metres high.
Modelled around buildings like the Empire State Building, this palace of culture in Warsaw was commissioned by Joseph Stalin. Amazingly, it was built in just three years and was completed by 1955.
Although iconic, the palace is controversial to many locals and a reminder of Soviet domination. Despite the name, the building is not actually a science centre but is still worth a visit.
