布拉加有两千年的历史，始于古罗马，当时它建于公元前15至13年之间。[4] 为了纪念罗马皇帝奥古斯都（公元前27年至公元14年在位），改名为布拉卡拉·奥古斯塔。这座城市后来成为加莱西亚省的首府和苏比王国的首府。

神社的伟大工人是神父。马蒂尼奥·安东尼奥·佩雷拉·达席尔瓦，1812年出生于布拉加市圣地亚哥达奇维达德。
神父沉浸在萨梅罗山顶的美景中马蒂尼奥想在那里植入一座纪念碑，以延续圣母无原罪的胜利和对 “圣母无原罪的教条定义” 的记忆。
从 1863 年起，一个基座被竖立起来。上面将放置一座由雕塑家埃米迪奥·卡洛斯·阿马图奇从一块大理石上撕下来的圣母的雕塑。
通往萨梅罗的道路将不再封闭。
第一座教堂出现了，于 1877 年 8 月 10 日被祝圣。
同时，在罗马，雕塑家尤金尼奥·马卡尼亚尼凭借精湛的技艺和艺术创作了美丽的萨梅罗圣母雕塑，该雕塑于1878年抵达布拉加，在波普洛教堂停留了两年。这幅由教皇庇护九世祝福的美丽画像将于 1880 年 8 月 29 日在人们和奉献精神的包围下抵达萨梅罗。

This new way of discovering a city via a walking tour with various challenges is a great way to learn about its history and discover its layout.

Each Tourist Scavenger Hunt is around 40 steps, 2-3 hours in duration on a 3-4km circuit which brings you back to the start.
