1997年，金树枝剧院的成员做出了一个惊人的发现。那里有一座废弃的工厂，位于台北市中心深处，所有游客都被封锁。该小组将工厂描述为城中之城，一个让大自然在混凝土中老化了近十年的地方... 他们对此很感兴趣。 虽然年轻的戏剧家当时并不知道，但他们偶然发现了台湾最古老、保存最完好的建筑之一。该工厂建于 1914 年，是整个 20 世纪 20 年代台湾最大的葡萄酒生产商之一，但它早已废弃。 这个厚颜无耻的团体 “修复” 了工厂的一小部分，并开始在废弃的大厅里上演戏剧。他们的实验表演和引人入胜的场地选择很快引起了当地社区的注意... 不幸的是，它也引起了当地执法部门的注意，该团体很快被指控犯有非法入侵罪。但是，这种过度热情的小举动仅仅是个开始。 当地艺术家被开放空间、高高的天花板和充足的自然光线所吸引。很快，来自台北各地的艺术和文学巨头开始将工厂用作鼓舞人心的工作空间，进行表演，并在建筑物本身上留下独特的印记。 有关这种独特环境的消息进一步传开，1999年，非营利性非政府组织台湾文化环境改革协会成立，负责监督将工厂修复为一个成熟的艺术中心。工厂更名为华山创意园，2005年，创意园的重建工作正式开始。 2007 年，台湾文化创意发展有限公司Ltd 负责公园的翻新和运营，并将其更名为华山1914。从那时起，一个有机创意的环境一直在发展。华山1914现在是台北的主要创意艺术中心，也是台湾最重要的文化活动的举办地。例子包括简单生活音乐节和BiBO学生设计博览会。如今，华山1914不仅是台湾创作脉搏的核心，也是通往独特建筑历史的桥梁。
