El antiguo ayuntamiento se construyó en 1851 en un sitio ocupado desde finales del siglo XVI por un mercado. Desde entonces, ha sido el centro de las actividades sociales de toda la ciudad, mediante su uso para servicios y escuelas dominicales, debates, cenas, una sociedad de historia natural, una sociedad de mejora mutua y el ayuntamiento de la ciudad hasta 1964. En 1978 se inauguró como el centro de arte The Old Town Hall financiado por el ayuntamiento de Dacorum. El Old Town Hall Theatre, Gallery Bar y The Cellar también están disponibles para funciones y actuaciones privadas.
