Granada Exhibition & Conference Centre has been the venue of significant cultural and scientific events since 1992. The Centre has 24 meeting rooms with an overall capacity for 3,560 participants, including two auditoriums: Garcia Lorca (2,000 pax), and Manuel de Falla (550 pax). The rest are multifunctional and flexible breakout rooms which offer a wide range of possibilities and can adapt to meet the needs of any event. Beside these, there are 2 main exhibition halls which add up to a total area of 4,000 sq m. (43,055 ft2) to accommodate poster and booth exhibits. Conveniently located in the heart of the city, the Centre is within walking distance to over 4,000 hotel rooms, as well as to restaurants, shops and many cultural sites. Conference participants can relax wandering about a relatively small and friendly city, enjoy in its lively plazas and cafes or experiencing Granada’s renowned ‘tapas’ route in the animated downtown bars. The conference Social Program can be enhanced by unique activities such as a night visit to the Alhambra and the gardens of Generalife, both declared as Human Heritage by UNESCO, a skiing trip to nearby Sierra Nevada or a relaxing day basking in the Sun on beaches of the Tropical Coast (both at a mere 30’ drive from downtown).

Dating back to the 9th century, the Alhambra was officially declared a World Heritage Site in 1984. Its name comes from the Arabic name for the colour of its walls (Al-Hamra), which were made using local clay, giving the bricks a reddish tint.
A visit to the complex takes at least three hours. It is located on the Sabika hill, near the Río Darro. Most of it is made up of the Generalife gardens, the Palacios Nazaríes and the Alcazaba, built by the Arabs. Of Christian origin are the Palacio de Carlos V and the Iglesia de María, built on the site of a former mosque. The Palacios Nazaríes are grouped irregularly and the different chambers are connected by courtyards or galleries.

The Sierra Nevada district is located next to the districts of Alpujarra and El Marquesado del Zenete. It is home to the highest mountain range within the Iberian Peninsula. From the top of the Veleta and the Mulhacén peaks you can see the Mediterranean Sea. It is a natural alpine paradise in the heart of Andalucía with mild summers and cold winters. Between its snow-covered peaks, its rivers and forests, there are many charming villages tucked away between the monumental city of Granada and the imposing mountain ranges of the Sierra Nevada.
The villages are immersed in their natural surroundings, maintaining the rich flavour of their traditions. There, listening to the silence, you can enjoy quietness and rest. Many of these villages date back to Moorish times and had a tradition of agriculture and silk production, relying on the provincial capital for their trade. The Moorish influence can still be seen in the web of canals that collect the water of the melted snow from the Sierra Nevada taking it down to the plains.
Because of its unique fauna and flora, the Sierra Nevada was declared a Biosphere Reserve, then a Natural Park and finally it was awarded National Park status.
The best ski resort in Spain is located within this area (Estación Sol y Nieve)

El Albayzín (also Albaicín) is a district of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain, that retains the narrow winding streets of its Medieval Moorish past. It was declared a world heritage site in 1984, along with the famous Alhambra. It features numerous monuments from different periods, mainly the nazari period and the Renaissance as well as the best viewpoints of the city to contemplate the Alhambra, along with restaurants, bar – terraces and local produce and handcraft shops.

Located between the Cathedral and the Calle Reyes Catolicos there is an interesting shopping area that is like a small Arab market. It is the ideal place for purchasing souvenirs. Centuries ago, in the Nasrid period, it was the silk market that stretched from Plaza Nueva to Bib-Rambla. It would remain unchanged until the evening of 19th of July of 1843, when a shop fire in Calle Mesones destroyed it. It was rebuilt in a similar fashion, in neo-Moorish style, and today most of the shops around here sell traditional and artisan products.
Granada has a variety of shops dotted along its historic streets and towns. In some shops that sell ceramics, wood and leather, time seems to stand still. Here guitars and textiles are made and you can catch a glimpse of the forge or the brazier.
Granada has also has several shopping centres and malls.
Small shops in Granada are open from Monday to Friday (10.00-13.30; 17.00-20.00) and on Saturdays (10.00-13.30). They normally close on Sundays.
Larger shops and departments stores (Alcampo, Corte Inglés, Hipercor, Mercadona, Carrefour, etc.) are open all day (normally 10.00-22.00), Monday to Saturday.
Shops don't generally open on Sundays.

Tapas are usually served free of charge with an alcoholic drink like Alhambra beer or a glass of wine from the Designation of Origin of Granada. It is the waiter who chooses the tapas and serves it to customers with their drinks. In some bars you can choose the tapas you want from a list.
Going for tapas with friends is one of the most characteristic local traditions in Granada. The concept could not be better: go for a stroll through the city, soak up its history, and enjoy these delicious snacks in any typical bar or restaurant. These snacks include cheese, sausage or ham as well as typical local warm dishes such as Engañifa, Callos, Habas con jamón, Papas a lo pobre and Pescaíto frito (fried fish), grilled vegetables, salmorejo, paella...and an endless array of local delicacies...

Granada’s coastal area has dozens of beaches and small coves with crystal-clear water, 320 sunny days a year and an average temperature of 20 degrees. These are the basic facts that sum up the 73 kilometres of tropical coastline in the province of Granada, which gets its name from the exceptionally good weather it enjoys all year round. Two centuries ago, this was the only place in Europe where subtropical fruits such as mangos, cherimoyas, avocados and papayas could be grown. These are fruits that evoke exotic flavours and places but, in fact, they are grown in Europe, in one of the most privileged corners of Andalucía.
Nineteen towns make up the “European Tropics”. Almuñécar, founded by the Phoenicians in 1000BC and given the name Sexi, is a place full of history that still has the remains of a Roman salted-fish factory and a fantastic jazz festival in the Summer.
Apart from beaches and culture, you can enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities in Granada’s Costa Tropical. These include golf, paragliding, trekking in the inland villages and scuba diving in the depths of Cerro Gordo. And in Marina del Este (Almuñécar) and the Club Náutico in Motril you can take part in all kinds of nautical sports.
