TRAILS

With over 40,000 acres of luscious forestry and countless miles of Trails, the Chicago Southland offers a unique perspective not accessible by car or train. Whether you’re looking for multicultural group itineraries or hitting the Trails that include the Lincoln Highway Murals that span through nine communities, the Chicago Southland offers a wide variety of family friendly activities for even the weariest of outdoor enthusiasts. Finding the perfect Trail to hike, bike, or walk couldn’t be easier, thanks to the Chicago Southland Trails App. The App also includes suggested stops if you opt for the Cal-Sag Trail or Old Plank Road Trail.

TRAINS

Train enthusiasts of all ages will love the railfanning activities the Chicago Southland has to offer, thanks to one of the most densely packed railroad regions in the United States. Catch a glimpse at the Homewood Railroad Viewing Platform or the Park Forest Rail Fan Park. Learn about the influence trains had in the Chicagoland area, specifically at Pullman National Monument and Pullman Porter Museum. And don’t forget the Beecher Depot, Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club and the Choo Choo Works Hobby Shop. ALL ABOARD!

TUNES

Music feeds the soul, and the Chicago Southland has plenty of musical options that allow you to jam to the Tunes. There is no shortage of live music choices year-round, from spectacular sold-out shows to quaint local performances. Get a breath of fresh air at Fox Pointe, Lansing’s new premier outdoor concert venue. Rock out all summer long at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. Enjoy local classics, in terms of both food and music at the Taste of Orland Park. Or take in the sounds of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra in venues throughout the region. Whatever musical genre feeds your soul; your favorite Tunes can be heard in the Chicago Southland!

TAPROOMS

No matter what type of pint is your passion, the Chicago Southland is overflowing with original Taproom options! Home to 17 craft breweries, fun is always on Tap in the region. Sample an award-winning brew at Evil Horse Brewing Company in Crete, including the silky-smooth, pale wheat Downtown Hottie. Hop over to the Chicago Southland’s oldest brewery, Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery in Flossmoor, for even more topnotch Taps. Enjoy open mic nights and live entertainment year-round at Hailstorm Brewing Co. in Tinley Park. Unwind at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, with locations in Orland Park and New Lenox. Sample award-winning wines at a tasting or enjoy a perfectly paired, delectable meal from their expansive menu. History and hops come together at the Thornton Distilling Co. in Thornton. With parts of this building dating back to the 1800s, this location is perfect to grab a refreshing Old Fashioned.
