Downtown Tempe is in the middle of the action along Mill Avenue, near the ASU Tempe Campus and next to Tempe Town Lake. Downtown is near sports facilities at ASU, like Sun Devil Stadium, and is home to special events throughout the year including the Tempe Festival of the Arts, Innings Festival and Ironman Arizona. In Downtown Tempe, visitors will find a variety of properties, from suites to upscale retreats, that are adjacent to an endless supply of restaurants, coffee shops, retailers, the lake and the hiking trail up “A” Mountain. 

Downtown Tempe is also accessible via Valley Metro Rail, with connections to PHX Sky Harbor International Airport, downtown Phoenix and downtown Mesa. The Tempe Transportation Center is at the College and Veteran’s Way stop, where you can also access buses and bike rentals from The Bicycle Cellar.

AC Hotel by Marriott Phoenix Tempe/Downtown

Located at the north end of downtown, the AC Hotel Phoenix Tempe/Downtown is the closest to Tempe Town Lake. The lobby is modern chic, with gathering spaces including a bar. The European breakfast at The Kitchen is delicious. And, their rooftop pool is an awesome spot to cool off on a warm summer day or watch the sunrise or sunset over “A” Mountain and the downtown skyline. 

Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown

Tempe’s Canopy by Hilton has made quite a splash since opening in summer 2020. Their lobby restaurant, Alter Ego, was named the best hotel restaurant by Phoenix New Times in the fall and their 14th floor rooftop pool and Alibi bar have become popular gathering spots as well. 

Hyatt House Tempe/Phoenix/University

If you’re looking to stay within close proximity to both the ASU Tempe Campus and Downtown Tempe, the dual branded Hyatt Place and Hyatt House are excellent options. These properties are among the city’s newest hotels and they boast a rooftop pool and bar. 

Residence Inn Tempe Downtown/University

Tempe’s downtown Residence Inn gives you plenty of room to relax, with fully equipped kitchens in every suite. You’ll also enjoy their rooftop pool with terrific views of “A” Mountain and daily free breakfast. Pets are welcome too. 

Sonesta Select Tempe Downtown

This hotel puts you in the heart of the downtown area. It is also very close to a Tempe Streetcar stop, which will begin operation in late 2021. Start your day with a Starbucks coffee or cocktails and dinner from their lobby restaurant. You’ll enjoy their comfortable rooms and enviable location. 

Tempe Mission Palms Hotel

Whether you’re in town for an ASU game or a business meeting, the Tempe Mission Palms is a terrific Tempe home base. Soak up the sun on their rooftop pool, have a casual meal at the Mission Grille or unwind with a cocktail at Harry’s Place, their onsite bar. The Tempe Mission Palms is a Destination by Hyatt hotel. 

Vīb Tempe

This new brand from Best Western Hotels & Resorts is currently under construction and expected to open in fall 2021. It will be an upscale boutique style property with 102 rooms, a rooftop lounge, outdoor pool and a state-of-the-art fitness center. 

Westin Tempe

The Westin Tempe is scheduled to open its doors in August 2021. Expect a modern and luxurious lobby,  guest rooms and suites equipped with iconic Heavenly® Beds and the ultimate fitness center.
