The Story Behind the Legend

Hotel Alcron was built by Prague businessman and architect Alois Krofta and opened in 1932. The name was a play on the founder's name and inspired by the legendary ancient ship Alcron. It was a high-tech place where every guest was treated like royalty, with both the accommodations and cuisine. Under its boat logo, which has been used for nearly 90 years, the hotel has hosted world-famous personalities, including Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, and Hugo Haas. Hotel Alcron has always been one of the most luxurious Prague hotels. Because of the regime change, the hotel closed in 1990 and became the center of a legal battle among the Krofta family. It was eventually sold to Crown WSF, which selected Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts to manage the property. In 1998, the hotel reopened as the Radisson SAS Hotel and was later renamed the Radisson Blu Alcron Hotel. This partnership worked well for 20 years, but as of Jan. 1, the Alcron Hotel has emerged from the Radisson Blu network. It remains a place full of elegance, quality, and humility. New possibilities bring an increased focus on cordial, sincere service, as well as luxurious, quality cuisine.

Why such long-term success? There are two reasons. The first is the corporate philosophy. The hotel's current director, Michal Chour, has spent years improving the environment so that every employee, from the cleaning staff to the managers, is motivated and full of positive energy. The second — and most important — reason for Hotel Alcron's success is its employees. They are the ones who serve guests with smiles and empathy and go to work with conviction and humility, because what they do is meaningful. Amazing Cuisine Onsite

Hotel Alcron offers three gourmet dining options: the renowned Alcron restaurant, La Rotonde, and the Be Bop Bar. All three are well-known for their luxury, history, incredibly positive atmospheres, and excellent dishes and drinks. The Alcron restaurant changes its menu slightly each month depending on the seasonality of the ingredients. Behind the menu are executive chef Roman Paulus and head chef Jakub Černý, whose combined talents give the restaurant its shining reputation. Paulus serves as a mentor in the Alcron restaurant but spent most of his time in the hotel's other restaurant, La Rotonde. The two chefs previously knew each other for several years, before Černý went abroad to cook at renowned Michelin restaurants. After his return to Prague, he made his mark on the Alcron restaurant. "Cooking is a hobby for me, and I like it very much," Černý says. "I owe Zdeněk Pohlreich and Roman Paulus for showing me how the world of gastronomy works. The experience I have gathered so far I like to distribute to my colleagues and our guests."
