At MGM Resorts, we have a long history of building and operating in a sustainable way. We also recognize that many of our clients have deep commitments to sustainability and want to activate those commitments by driving positive societal and environmental benefits during their events.

Sustainability Benefits at an MGM Property

Some sustainability benefits arise just by hosting an event at an MGM property. For example, did you know that all MGM venues in Las Vegas have full material recovery facilities onsite? Guests, including event attendees, don’t need to figure out which material goes in which bin, because we do the sorting for them, back of the house. We’ve found this helps maximize diversion rates, and in 2018 we diverted nearly 50% of all end-of-use materials from landfills: a very high percentage in for hospitality. MGM has also partnered with Three Square, Southern Nevada’s main food bank to safely donate unserved food from our resorts. No need to ask your catering manager to do this: for most buffet meals over 500 guests at our major convention venues (ARIA, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, and The Mirage) unserved food donations happen as a standard. Since we started this program in 2016 with unserved food from events, we’ve added many food types and donated over 800,000 pounds of food to people in our community. It’s another hospitality best practice that comes automatically when you host at certain MGM venues.

Sustainable Event Ideas

As a customer focused company, we know that some event planners want to bring their own sustainability priorities to their events. But since event planning is already complex, adding the sustainability dimension can be daunting. That’s why we’ve produced a fun, creative tool to make things easier: a deck of cards featuring 52 Sustainable Event Ideas. Each card has a specific idea that drives one or more societal or environmental benefit. And the ideas can be mixed and matched to make each event unique. The cards cover four broad areas: Venue and Space, Food and Beverage, Décor and Signage and Outreach and Education. Fifty-two ideas for sustainable event planning in a format that aids decision-making, and makes planning fun.

Create a Memorable Event with MGM

Whether it’s requesting succulent plants instead of fresh cut florals, opting for more sustainable food and beverage options, or arranging volunteer activities onsite to support local charities, we can help planners create memorable and sustainable events.
