First things first… has Oklahoma City been on your radar for your next meeting? If not, now’s the time to rethink where you’re planning your events. Over the past two decades, we’ve transformed Oklahoma City through more than $5 billion of public and private investment in quality-of-life projects and improvements. And, there’s plenty to come in the next few years. Check it out!
Oklahoma City’s Boathouse District, home to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site for Canoe/Kayak just opened it’s $45.2 million whitewater rafting and kayaking center in the middle of downtown OKC. It’s the only urban course in the world. Picture your attendees spending the day on the Oklahoma River enjoying a day filled with team building activities including canoeing, kayaking, ropes courses, zip lining and whitewater rafting. What’s even better about this adventure course is the fact that it’s just steps away from hotels, OKC’s Entertainment District and the Convention Center.
Also on the horizon is a new streetcar system which will span approximately six miles of downtown with streetcar tracks linking major attractions in the downtown area. It will be the most extensive of its type in the United States.
In addition to the streetcar system, OKC will have a new 70-acre park connecting downtown OKC to the shores of the Oklahoma River by 2021. This park will provide visitors with a variety of recreation activities, including concerts, walking/biking/running trails, picnic sites, youth sports fields, play areas, public art, interactive water features and outdoor education opportunities. This is the perfect place for conference attendees to enjoy during downtime or something to do in the evening hours.
Lastly, planners will be most excited about the new convention center coming to OKC in 2020. With 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 35,000-square-foot ballroom and 50,000 square feet of additional space paired with a prime location near the Myriad Botanical Gardens, the downtown park and the Chesapeake Energy Arena, there’s plenty of room set in the perfect location to hold your next event. Did we also mention that OKC is located in the center of the U.S. making it the perfect place for attendees to meet when coming from everywhere?
These things are what’s coming to OKC in the next few years. But, we’ve been hard at it since the late 90’s with improvements, revitalization and so much more. We invite you to See OKC for yourself and experience what everyone does once they get here- the opportunity to be amazed by our growth and all that there is to do and see!
