From Client Service Product Consultant to Vice President of Account Management and Retention

Why did you initially join Cvent and what has made you stick around?

I joined Cvent fresh out of college (go Dukes!) and while I’d like to say the decision was due to incredible foresight, the reality is that I was a kid who had no idea what I wanted to do with my professional career. While I was looking to pursue grad school, a mentor suggested I get some “real world” experience first. I took the job at Cvent because I loved the team, felt the role in CS played to the little experience I had with peer tutoring, and most of all because it came with the opportunity to travel to India! I’d say the international travel opportunity was probably 1/3 of my decision but I have stayed because of the tremendous talent and growth opportunities that exist within Cvent Nation. The connection to our incredible customer base has also played a massive role!

How has the organization changed and how has it stayed the same?

I loved those early “start-up” days where we all knew each other’s names and wore 1,000 different hats. No one ever thought, “this isn’t my job!” We just did what needed to get done. That vibe is alive and well in the Soul of Cvent all these years later.

What is your advice for those who are looking to advance in their careers (at Cvent and beyond)?

Ride the wave. Skill and opportunity matter, but don’t underestimate the impact of sheer grit and determination. Because of our growth, I’m always interviewing candidates and the trend I typically see is 18-24 months at a given company. A 2014 graduate is already on their 3rd job. That movement might give you more exposure in the short term, but you never build the mental toughness to weather a storm.

From Market Research Associate to Director of Marketing for Cvent Hospitality Cloud

Why did you initially join Cvent and what has made you stick around?

Back in 2006 as an MBA Graduate when I was exploring opportunities to make use of my degree and bring my knowledge into action, I came for an interview to Cvent and happened to run into Reggie. He was there for his annual visit to India, so it must have been meant to be. He helped me and advised me to join marketing, keeping in mind my specialization on the subject. This CEO invested in a newbie to help me build on my goals, and his vision truly inspired me. This experience was so overwhelming that I decided to join Cvent.

How has the organization changed and how has it stayed the same?

When I joined Cvent, we were a single-product company focused only in North America. Over the last decade, Cvent has grown to a multi-product global company with complex processes and programs that have a far-reaching impact. With all this expansion, the special culture of Cvent has remained intact. As an organization, we expanded our employee and customer count dramatically, but our culture, which focuses on customer and employee centricity, is as strong as ever. The values that we live by – ‘The Soul of Cvent’ has a deep significance in keeping the culture of the company alive.

What is your advice for those who are looking to advance in their careers (at Cvent and beyond)?

Have patience, focus on building and winning short goals, while working towards designing and achieving longer-term goals. Rome was not built in one day, nor is a career. We all need to focus on polishing our competencies, identifying our passion, and striving to achieve that. Another piece of advice would be to not take on too much stress; its ok to fail sometimes, so relax - you will get there. Just keep your focus and determination and there is no stopping your ability to achieve your dreams.

Vice President of Human Resources

Why did you initially join Cvent and what has made you stick around?

When I joined Cvent, I was the only HR employee in the US (there were three in India as we had just set up that office the prior year) and 120(ish) employees 120 globally. It was a great opportunity to work with a fast-growing tech start-up and build the HR function from the ground up. I’m still here almost 13 years later because I have been able to create and execute on talent programs as well as innovate and revamp those same programs as the company grew and evolved. Even now, I learn something new every day, whether it is a technical HR item, a business concept, or leadership skill, all the while developing amazing relationships and true friendships along the way.

How has the organization changed and how has it stayed the same?

The company is sooo much bigger now, but I think that is really all that has changed. The start-up mindset and spirit are still here, and we strive intentionally to retain that culture. We have even more amazingly talented and intelligent employees than ever!

What is your advice for those who are looking to advance in their careers (at Cvent and beyond)?

Gain something from every experience, whether failure, critical feedback, or huge success, as well as every relationship that you develop.
