Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is a public autonomous university that offers industry-focussed, applied degree programs. It confers its own degree programs, as well as specialised degree programs in partnership with overseas universities. SIT is a university of applied learning, which means it offers students to learn hands-on. Hence, SIT readily invests in industry-standard software/solutions that are widely used.
A key offering of SIT is its Integrated Work-Study Programme (IWSP). All students at SIT work full-time for about eight to twelve months with hospitality and events organisations. The success of this program is seen in more than 90% of the students securing a job within six months of graduation. This is why the institute invests in best-in-class technology to train all the student -- that is how Cvent came in to the picture!
SIT chose Cvent Event Diagramming (CED) to upskill students in learning Banquet Events Management, Hotel Sales & Event Sales and the IWSP modules. The first two modules teach students the basics of account management, the sales cycle in a hotel, and how to manage events. As part of the module, students learn to use Cvent Event Diagramming to produce floor plans/diagrams in the event management process. For the IWSP, students are given the opportunity to learn how to use CED, especially if they have chosen to intern in hotel MICE departments or events companies.
SIT partners with major hotel chains like Marriot International and Pan Pacific Hotel Group, as well as with local hotel chains like Far East Hospitality, to offer internship programs to its students. On the event management side, companies like Messe Berlin recruit SIT students for internships. Exposing students to software like Cvent Event Diagramming in the classroom gives them an added advantage when they begin their careers in the hospitality industry and helps them get up to speed with business operations.
