There are promising new developments on the horizon for event organizers when it comes to mobile technology. Apple’s 2017 proposed changes to the App Store Guidelines created a brief stopgap that the industry was forced to navigate. Luckily, Apple revised these changes to make them more event app-friendly. Event organizers can now create engaging mobile experiences with a few simple adjustments.

Understanding the New Apple App Store Guidelines

There are three current publishing options to choose from in the App Store. As the industry leader for event mobile apps, Cvent wants to clarify each of these options. Learn more about each below to make the best choice for your event app needs.

Stand-Alone App

If you have a developer license, you are free to publish a stand-alone app. If you do not have a current developer license, you will need to apply for one from Apple and Google. You must be approved before you can publish to iTunes or Google Play, so be forewarned that this process can take up to four weeks to complete. With this option, you can include one or more events within the app and brand it to your organization’s standards.

Cvent’s multi-event container app, AttendeeHub, is one of the most widely used in the industry. Our team can publish your app and simultaneously host your events within AttendeeHub, allowing you to avoid the hassle of having to obtain an individual developer license. We offer expert development capabilities with a knowledgeable support team to match, making this the quickest and easiest option for organizers. The best part? Your AttendeeHub app will be automatically updated with latest capabilities on a regular basis.

Enterprise Release

If you choose not to make the app available for the general public, you may wish to publish using Enterprise Release. This option requires an Enterprise License. If you do not have a current license, you will need to apply for one and await approval from Apple. This process can take up to four weeks. The app must also be hosted on a private server to allow attendees to download the app via a custom link. Enterprise Release ultimately requires a high level of complexity in publishing.

Choosing the Best Event App Publishing Option

All three of these options allow you to publish an engaging event app that suits your organization’s specific needs. The question simply becomes, which option best fits your timeline and resources? Each publishing method is guaranteed to be compliant with Apple’s new guidelines, creating the premier app experience for publishers and users alike.
