The Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) Board of Directors approved a four-year operating agreement for SMG, a worldwide entertainment and convention venue management company, to operate Reno-Sparks’ four major convention and entertainment facilities.

In addition to helping improve the overall customer experience throughout the destination, SMG has a current portfolio of clients and partners that will provide opportunities to bring additional trade shows, events, and touring entertainment to Reno Tahoe, according to the RSCVA.

The operational management of the four venues will begin in June 2018 and include culinary services through SMG’s in-house food and beverage division, under the company’s SAVOR and Premier brands.

SMG currently manages more than 75 convention centers — including North America’s largest, the McCormick Place in Chicago — as well as 13 stadiums, 70 arenas, and 67 theaters and performing arts centers.

In addition, the existing Reno-Sparks Convention Center is already undergoing a multitiered project to improve the public spaces. New LED lighting is being installed, and skylight obstructions are being reduced to let in even more natural light. Other improvements include the redesign of interior signage, a fresh paint scheme, new carpeting, and new, modern art. The current project is expected to be completed by July.

The Reno-Sparks Convention Center has already completed$1.3 million worth of upgrades to its wireless networking for convention clients, accommodating 10G speeds for up to 25,000 users.
