Have you ever opened an email containing a survey link and asked, “What am I getting myself into?” Even if the survey is asking for valuable feedback the product or service, this is how most people react. Based on current trends, researchers have found that access to the new technologies help process information much quicker and on a much deeper level than ever before. Having access to high-speed internet feels like the equivalent of absorbing loads of information almost instantaneously. At the same time, our patience and diligence have taken a hit. This makes it difficult for businesses to collect accurate and meaningful customer feedback that would ultimately improve the customer experience. Most people ignore or delete emails containing customer feedback surveys the moment it hits their inbox. The few individuals who do open the survey have meaningful feedback for a business or company. Below are a few strategies to attract and maintain your customers’ attention, ensuring you have access to valuable customer feedback.
  1. Keep It Simple and to the Point
  • Make sure the subject line hooks the respondent
  • Explain how long the survey will take (i.e. 2 minutes of your time) in the email invitation
  • Show participants their opinions will be taken seriously
  1. Avoid Information Overload Resulting in Decision Fatigue
Keep survey questions brief and direct. Long and complex questions lead to decision fatigue, driving participants to quit the survey entirely. Ask questions that allow for quick and easy answer selections.
  1. Offer a Perk or Benefit as Incentive
Consider offering a perk or benefit to yield a higher response rate. If a person receives an invitation to complete a survey with a chance of winning a free $50 gift card to Target, they would be more likely to participate. Always positively reinforce their response as a driving motivator as they complete the survey. Want to know more about Decision Fatigue? Learn more here.
