Snapchat is proving itself as more than a 24-hour content sharing app. What was once seen as a social media platform for kids is now widening its user demographic to older generations. B2B and B2C companies are taking note and leveraging Snapchat to add another level of customer engagement to their marketing arsenals.

The same engagement tactics are ideal for live events. Event professionals are also incorporating Snapchat into their events to create another dimension to the attendee experience. When done correctly, Snapchat can be a powerful tool in a planner’s marketing belt. Here are five ways to create Snapchat event success:

1. On-demand Geofilters

Imagine On-Demand Geofilters as snap frames that are specific to your event’s location. To create a geofilter for your event, your venue must be between 20,000 and 5 million square feet. The filter also cannot be active for more than 30 days – but that shouldn’t be a problem for most meetings or events. We created and promoted one geofilter at Cvent CONNECT, and it was a huge success! When attendees were in the parameters of our event, they were able to apply the Cvent CONNECT geofilter to jazz up their snaps. On-Demand Geofilters are a fun way for your attendees to engage with your event and for you to brand their experience and memories. Plus, you’ll be able to track how many people have used your geofilter – a useful reporting feature to prove its value!

2. FOMO

The main symptom of fear-of-missing-out (FOMO) is people wishing they were somewhere else, usually where the fun is happening. As a planner, how can you leverage this? Make sure that your attendees are having fun! Give your attendees access to props or incentivize with extra recognition. When attendees share branded snaps (using On-Demand Geofilters) on their story, their followers will take note. Learn 5 other ways to use FOMO when marketing your events

3. Contests

Snapchat has brought a new dimension to promotions and contests. The other day I participated in a contest where I had to send a selfie snap directly to the company in order to be entered into the drawing. They even responded back, which I really appreciated. You can use the same concept at your events! Ask your attendees to go on a scavenger hunt and send snaps of certain items (i.e. display booths or even people). Ask a trivia question or have them share a snap of their favorite moment. It’s also a great ice breaker and a fun way for attendees to network with each other.

4. Behind-the-Scenes

Who doesn’t love a sneak peek? Use Snapchat to document behind-the-scenes content to give your followers a glimpse of exclusive moments. Whether you announce your keynotes first on Snapchat or do a quick interview before they head on stage, these rarely seen moments will excite attendees and capture their attention. Don’t worry about being perfect or capturing “perfect” moments. The imperfections of real moments make your event more authentic and more relatable. Your followers will appreciate these snaps most as they provide them access to content they can’t get anywhere else. Pro tip: Share your snaps to your Snapchat Story and then download afterwards to have content that can be reused at a later time!

5. Snapchat Memories

Snapchat just released a new feature: Memories. Memories allow users to take photos and share them later. Members of your team can take pictures during the event and then send them to the person who manages your company’s account. Obviously, you can’t be everywhere, so it provides the ability to capture and share moments from parts of the event you couldn’t be.
